Well where are you? Polkies are great people. If you let us know about where you are I am sure you could get your ears on for free. Some SOB did that to me when I was a doubter, and I have never looked back:)Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

No! I am not a doubter. Not at all! I am a believer as long as it's reasonably priced. I am an optimistic. The ICs should always be of good and better quality that you can afford and should always surpass the lowest (poorest) quality component in a rig. That is to make sure your system is suffering from the weakest link.
But getting 8G cables to go with my polkie stuff would be like losing gold in the mud.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -

after reading this......this morning i am thinking maybe i will upgrade my Home Depot Monster HT-Series subwoofer cables. maybe not.....

I'll try to steer this back on topic. I would have no problem paying $8K for cables if it was the same percentage of my budget as cables are now for my mid-fi system.
I've been shown in almost every instance there are differences in cables and the synergy associated with the gear you are running. Heard it very distinctly yesterday at our meet. So I have no doubt regardless of price that in someones system somewhere the $8K cables will make a difference.

Can everyone take a chill for a minute and listen up??
While I agree with most points on the above post, I have a few things to add and take it for what it's worth. If you sit down and think about what the job of any cable is, it has to perform that job correctly and to spec. gear is designed to work a certain way and the cables you use to connect them play an important role. They have to get the signal no matter which on it is from one point to another without loss or picking up anything else on the way. Once this is achieved, no cable in the world is going to make any difference after this. Think about it for a minute, forget all that you read for a minute and look at it logically. Forget about Monster, Kimber , Signal and all the other brands for a minute. Forget about how pretty and nice the cable looks. None of that matters if the given cable can't perform it's job correctly.
So my advise is to figure out what the job the cable has to do, then find out what cable can do the job correclty, once you achieve this, your system will perform the way it was designed. I don't care what brand, what materials, who says what and why, I only care about getting the job done right.
On a personal note, I have conducted so many wire shootouts I can't even begin to tell you guys. I have heard differences in different cables. I don't know if it was brand related or construction. It could be cooper and silver and the way the signal travels. It could be I like one cable over another due to tones I like over others. We all hear differently and some the same and there are certain sounds we all favor and hate. So finding the right cables , speakers, amps , etc all play a role in the overall replay system. What most miss is the fact the very room they are using to conduct these tests, listening and what have you , has the biggest effect on the overall experience.
Some people around here talk about a thing called synergy, you all of you stop and take the time to really learn what you are talking about, you may learn something that will help you build the right system for you.
I don't have all the answers, I can only speak from my experience. If it can help any of you, thats really cool, a lot of you helped me over the years. I would prefer us to talk about why we feel the way we do about cables, it always turns out to be a measuring contest. There is no reason for it. On both sides of the cable, everyone has a point to make. Honestly if those points work for you, cool , use what you feel is right. I don't however find any forward progress in discrediting, insulting , or anything else like that.
It's a shame we can't talk about cables without fighting. I have no time to argue anyones feelings about one brand or another. If one guy wants to use coat hangers for cables then so be it, it's his/her system and do what you will. Don't ask for advise then discredit it and visa versa.
So If anyone wants to talk about cables, findings and anything else related to building a great system, I'm here for yeah. I hope along the way we together can learn from each other and find the desired result.
If not continue what's going on in here and get nowhere you will.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
Oh...me! I lack the golden ears most AudiophileS possess.
Too bad about your hearing, although if you were to invest in a tailored smoking jacket with a mahoganey pipe, get some fine cultured tobacco and learn to make small but well timed grunting noises of approval during your listening sessions your hearing may improve.
As an alternative you might stare into a mirror in a darkened room, after some time reflecting you may come to realize that a few weak links have not prevented mankind from globalizing the planet.
If that fails a pair of assless chaps have been known to improve things around here.

Interesting combination with the ultra uber cables and the synergy will improve if you try it in the darkened room when no one is staring at you.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -
Me personally, I tried a few different cables and ended up buying the one I liked the sound of the best, it wasn't the most expensive but the way it sounded on my gear was what I wanted.
I dont know much about womd of the in's and out's but I have a $950- power cable for my power amp on the way and hope it doe's something good. Will be interested to see if it changes anything.
As for the 12 gauge cable I have, it is a pain to cut and solder, too much to get into most plugs.....

Brody, Does your wife know you spent $950 on a power cable?
Sal
aaaahhhhh, I plead the fifth.......
Actually it is more boring than that, got it with the amp. Here it is if your interested in taking a look, it is the 12 foot one ($899), the $950 reference must have been with freight??? or maybe I am just confused

To be honest, the wife switches off when it comes to the stereo, comes in handy though, coversation goes something like this....
Babe, I was thinking, you know how I was having problems with the cabling on the stereo and I was..........Blank looks comes on face........I be patient and keep on talking.........Then two weeks later when she asks why money is missing from our account I remind her of the conversation we had about the cabling, cant argue with that.......or can she......
Nice utube clip on the excursion.......Love to hear them one day, so many club polk rave about them so they must be pretty good, anyone in NZ got any??? -
Thank you. If you ever come visit New York City then make sure you left me know, I'll send my wife to go shopping with yours and we can enjoy the Stereo System
Sal[/QUOTE]
Only if she can use your credit card....
One day I would like to drag the family away on a US and Europe holiday when the little ones a bit older, if it happens I would certainly like to do a club polk pilgramage of sorts. Just got to stop buying stereo stuff, I am more than content - hope it stays that way and thanks for the offer, I would certainly be keen.
I still have the original cable and plan on switching between the two with a mate one day so we can see what it does. The only thing is the standard one is running off a 10amp extension cord as it is only 5 feet, this one will reach the whole way and comes with a 20amp IEC so should see a gain just getting rid of the extension cord. I am hoping it supplies the power a bit quicker and better so it is there on tap when required but time will tell. Will let you know the results.
