What brand are your mains? They look very cool. How do you like the single driver, x-overless approach compared to multi drivers? I'm thinking about getting in to them and want to add more to my list if they're in my price range. So far I've got my eyes on some Omega models. I first heard a single driver at the dealer months ago and fell in love with the sound.

Kick **** system you got there.
It appears to be a single or dual concentric driver, but it's not.

Aah, thanks guys. The specs look incredible. Those are full range monsters and super sensitive at around 100db. I bet they sound killer. Rock on!

Good to hear you're enjoying your system. Nice gear you have there.

I have not changed anything in my system for two months already...that's a record.

Sweet tittie! Nice setup man. Ohhhhhhhh, to hear it.......

One day....since it's gonna last a while. Any bets going yet? :D

I don't know man. Unless I find a really cool tube preamp I can't live without this system is going to stay as is for a while.

I am in the process of purchasing some MIT cables from Doro and Integrated tube/SS Hybrid Amp from Audiogon to pair with the LSi7s I bought from Moonpie. This is my new bedroom system. I'm going to see what I can do for under a grand or two. I'm still undecided as to whether I get a DAC and use a computer as a source or just go the plain CDP route.

Why don't you drive north and have a beer with me. We can listen to some tunes. Perhaps it will convince you that I may actually be able to be content with the sound. :)

I have never seen those speakers before...how do they compare to the Adagios you have before. At 100 db efficiency they are begging for a SET amp.

    Did somebody say beer? :D

Oh, I don't doubt you are content with the sound. I'm almost there myself. It's just that I've been content for periods that seem to not last very long. I'm still working on a year long project that's going into year 2.5 now and I know I won't be done for at least another 8 or more months. I'm content though. There aren't many rigs out there that I am pleased with more than what I have assembled and I have a feeling that when I'm done, I still will be working on it one way or another.

Building a second rig will help me get my "change" in sound though. I'm starting the planning phases on that one now.

I'll be up your way to hear this, but I don't think it will be until later this year [or worst case scenario, next year] so hopefully it won't change much as I'd like to hear it. Looks like you are enjoying it! ;)

Stop by anytime man. I will be in this apartment for 3 more years at least.

Tweaking is almost never ending. I want to work on the sub. Gotta get a program and some test tones to do measurements to see where I got dips and how to correct them on the para EQ. Know where I can get some tones?

Unfortunately, no. I get mine from the SMS-1. I'm sure someone will chime in with a source though.

    Solid,

On a tube pre, you might want to consider the Modwright in the F/S section, I was the original owner and without a doubt it is the best pre I have ever owned. Read up on it, great unit especially for the low asking price.

On the 7s, a couple grand for a bedroom rig, thats wild. I got my 7s w/ <$450 worth of electronics, never sounded better.

As for test tones, PM me. I know a site where you can get some, just throw them in excel and graph it and you are GTG.

I saw the ModWright. I would have bought it if it had Balanced Connections. Right now I am eye-balling some preamps from BAT.

According to Walter at Underwood, they should arrive at the end of the month. Most likely an August or September review. Since the Emerald's must be bi-amped (solid state) he's sending me some matching amps as well.

These are way better than the Adagios in terms of range and clarity. The Adagios had their own sonic character. The Emmys don't really have a sonic signature other than sounding the closest I have ever heard to being there.

Oh man . . . these are definitely not single driver speakers. Behind the black fabric in each speaker is two 15" drivers. They are Emerald Physics CS2s.
The crossover is external: Behringer DCX2946.

These do have a lot more in common with single drivers speakers than you might think: nothing between the amp and the driver; both 15" drivers and the horn tweeters cover a broader range than you typically see.

I have my Lsi7s on a HK 3480 ($185) with a budget SVS sub, and Toshiba HD-A3 currently running through a Theta Pro Progeny DAC. Sounds really good.

The DAC is probably overkill, but I had it laying around. Whole thing didn't cost much more than $1K including the DAC, speakers, cables, etc.

    Solid Squal,
At that kind of efficiency, forget active pre amps. Check out some passives. Not the ones that use potentiometers but the ones that adjust voltage by autoformers. My dealer recommended this type of set up for my rig (104db/w/wm) and I'm NEVER going back to an active pre amp again. It was only when I went passive when I realised how much noise active pre amps add. I thought I was going to lose bass and dynamics by going passive but they actually improved.
Try looking for a used one, so if you don't like it you can sell it and make your $ back.
With 100db/w/m, a passive pre and low powered SET will kick some serious musical ****.

It looks pretty nice but I'd honestly be suprised if any of that gear lasts until December.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I may go this route with a Placette Remote Volume Control, but why would the speaker efficieny come into play? Would'nt only the output voltage of the source matter?

The problem some people have with passive preamps is lack of gain. The main reason I sold my passive pre was because if I turned it all the way up, it still wasn't quite as loud as it should have been. You're right in terms of the output voltage of the source and the input sensitivity of the amp, but I think highly efficient speakers would also help mitigate potential gain issues.
