I will have to consider that option as well, I consider polk audio the best of the best, I have a pair of Polk monitor 70s in my bedroom and absolutley love them. So Two 12 inch Polk SR's would be better than three Alpine type r 12's, It just such a hard decision to make because i want to crack paven, but also want tight clean bass. I guess a man cant have both, SO would the sr's be a good choice for what i want?

one reason i was going to go with the alpine type r is the price, the polk sr's at 350.00 bucks a pop are a bit pricey for me No doubt they are a better subwoofer, polk builds great stuff, there just a bit high on the price range.

If you ask me, I'd say they're worth every penny. But if its out of your price range, its out of your price range. Alpine builds pretty solid products as well.

the type rs have a frequency response range of 23-500hz while the polk has one from 20-200hz does this make a huge difference

u askign for 2 diffrent things. if u wana be able to get a high db reading for a contest... u are going to need to throw in the 3 12s and still prob not do very well..... if u wana win a sound quality compeitions u are going to want prob no more than the 2 12"..... start with 1 12" sr and see if its enough for u... if its not, add another.

clearly u cant spend money u dont have.... so dont subtle for the alpines right now... if u dont have enough for the 2 SRs now, get 1 and get another later.

I'd say start off with one SR124 DVC and use a PA1200.1 to power it. That'll give you 800 watts. Thats plenty of overhead. If you find, you'd like more bump in the future, you can add another DVC sub. That amp will put out 1200 watts at a 1 ohm load, so each sub will be getting 600 watts.

that is a lot less power than i was orginally going to go with, now when the sr subs hit do they hit hard, can you make them take your breath away. will they rattle your teeth. I was listening to my buddies system last night he has two crunch 12's and took your breath away i was smiling like a kid in a candy shop. of course we were in a little hatchback with the praticallly right behind our heads. but it was a nice back massage, plus i know one 12 will not be enough i allready have one twelve in the trunk now its a volfenhag, and i cant even tell i have a sub in the car, its quit as a mouse, it blows. so i dont know if 2 12s will be enough i have a huge trunk and it is a long way from the trunk to the driver seat, im driving a crown vic remember.

ok i decided im going to go with to polk sr 124dvc sub and im going to run a pa1200.1 to each sub, that will give each sub 800rms i know the polks can handle that, my question is i called crutchfield and they reccommend putting a cap on each mono amp do i need this, or are they trying to sucker me out of more money? i dont want to buy extra **** i dont need.

I run type R 15s in a Caddie Escalade and they get very loud yet sound very good. Running them down to 1 ohm off a Hifonics BXI 2806, tuned to 32hZ ported enclosure.

im sure cody can give u a pretty good estimate, the alternator in a crown victoria should actually be pretty solid... dont they use them for cabs.... if the one in cabs are different u could maybe go to a salvage yard and yoink one from a cab (if they have a better one).

that setup is sounding very impressive.

How custom do you mean? I personally recommend making it yourself... especially if you like working with your hands. Plus its a lot more satisfying knowing you've done all the work!
