To my knowledge, polyfill is used for one purpose. I read that it can make the box seem 10% bigger. Think of it as fooling the subwoofer in thinking that the box is bigger than it actually is.

The only thing i can recommend is going to an audio shop and listening to different setups... the best options would be to obviously listen to the subs you're interested in.

hmmm... thats a pretty subjective question. For my taste, my two 12" subs can play louder than I expected in my sealed enclosure... but I'm not complaining. I just turn the subs down b/c I don't like them drowning out the music. Like I suggested, the only thing I can recommend is that you try and listen to the setup you want (or one similar to it) and judge for yourself. Because at the end of the day, its your opinion that counts - not what other people think.

Ported boxes are "louder" but then so is a freight train horn.

Ported boxes are tuned to a certain frequency and thats where their strength in. Below that they tend to fall off pretty quick.

Plus, and this is the biggest issue I have with ported boxes - the sound is coming thru the port itself. Now which would you rather listen to: the $400 subwoofer you just bought that was designed by engineers or the $2 piece of PVC pipe that you used for the port?

Go sealed. Plenty loud - sounds better.

hmm well mac you bring up a valid point there i did not know that the sound came thru the port its self, so with a sealed box i will get more home audio quality bass then. am i correct to assume this.

I've got Alpine HU, infinity 5x7's up front, infinity 6x9's on side, 2 Alpine Type R's in back.
All 3 amps are old school Alpine...can't remember the front amps model but about 60wpc, side amp is Alpine MRV-1005 and rear for the subs is the hall of fame MRV-1507 with a 1.5 farad cap. Oh ya and an Alpine graphic equalizer and Monster cables. Huge wow factor. Big BIG bass. Those Type R's take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. This is all in a 1989 IROC-Z that every year I have to tighten bolts on because it's rattling apart from the bass.

I have a question the amp im going to get for my polk momo components is more than likely going to be the pa500.4 according to crutchfield they state it is rated at 125watts rms with a 2 ohm load, the polk momo speakers are only a 4 ohm load right so i would only be getting 50 watts rms or am i mistaken please correct me if im wrong. and i will be bi amping them, is there any way to get a 2 ohm load out of these speakers.

That amp also puts out 90 watts x 4 at a 4 ohm load, so you've got nothing to worry about. Just wire everything normally.

I have the kdc-x791 and I love this thing. Great ipod controls (except when you have 2000 songs and you're searching for one) just set up a playlist for yourself and it's good.4v sub preout is awesome, overall a really good setup. I did some hunting and got mine for under 200 from sonic electronix, but idk if they carry them any more.

Most good amps come with built in crossover adjusts and you can tune them to your taste. Or you can get a centralized crossover box with or without parametric equalizer for each channel. Makes getting the sound right more possible but adds a lot more wiring and expense. I just let the amps crossovers and the graphic eq below my HU do it for me.

I would think if one is mounted reverse (magnet out) you'd have to set the phase 180 degrees to the other subs so that you don't get cancellation of the waves. Might be best to ask an expert installer. My Type R's are in a sealed box for nice tight bass. They'd be a lot louder if I tuned and ported the box but I like the tighter cleaner sound of sealed. I have never heard the Polk Momo's so I can't comment on how they compare but many here like them. Keep in mind too that the Type R 12's mount very deep. 7 inches I think. Plus you need a bit of room on the bottom of the box for them to breath.

i have heard both, i built my system with the idea of having pure sound quality. My 2 10" momos are in a small sealed box. I have heard the Type R 12" with a 1000w RMS going into them and they are VERY LOUD.... if i had to chose again, i would either go with 1 12" SR or 2 12" SR, i would still rather have my momos over the Type Rs because i just think they sound CLEAN, which is what i wanted, i still get a ton of bump out of 2 10s in a small sealed box in my civic. People still start laughing when i turn it up and they get slapped in the back.

Just figure out what u want, LOUD = Alpine type Rs in a big ported box, Clean = MOMOs in small sealed.

a JL W7 13.5" sub with prob 1500w rms running into it.... heres the deal.... take mac for example, he came in 2nd place at world finals running a single momo 10" sub in a sound quality compeition. he replaced that 10" with a 12" sr.... HE KNOWS SOUND QUALITY.... if u want more output, and sound quality, why not get 2 12"SRs
