So here is an interesting item I just discovered:

It was recently announced that sci-fi remake series Battlestar Galactica is getting a whole new spinoff prequel series called "Caprica." Signed on for twenty hours worth of finished product, including a two-hour pilot, the new series is to be set 50 years prior to Battlestar Galactica, and will focus on two rival families, the Graystones and the Adamas.

"Enmeshed in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons, the two houses go toe-to-toe blending action with corporate conspiracy and sexual politics. 'Caprica' will deliver all of the passion, intrigue, political backbiting and family conflict in television's first science fiction family saga."

Ah yes. Here's a link to a great interview with the show's creator about both Battlestar and Caprica : http://sepinwall.blogspot.com/2009/01/battlestar-galactica-ron-moore-talks.html

That same writer (Alan Sepinwall, IMO the best TV writer out there) has seen the next episode of Galactica (Which is premiering in about 2 weeks) and he says it's amazing : http://sepinwall.blogspot.com/2009/01/still-more-pure-evil-i-have-now-seen.html

    I can't wait.

Even at 41 yrs old, I find this show addictive. I was really not a huge sci-fi fan until this show. Yeah, I enjoyed Star Wars, Matrix, amongst others, but now I find myself getting into the genre more and more. Guess it's a way to "get away from it all" without ingesting "mind-altering" substances.:p

I've also never been much of a SciFi fan, aside from the things you mentioned, so if you're like me and interested in this show, you should check out Firefly as well. It was only a one season show (and much more light-hearted than Galactica) but is HUGELY fun.

Thanks to RonP, I own it and Serenity. Love the series and Serenity(watched it in Hi-Def on Sci-Fi, which hacked it up, last night) and supposedly, there may be a sequel to Serenity in the near future. I'll be getting them on Blu when I can afford to do so.

Gallactica is more than just a sci-fi show, it's a drama and has received numerous kudos for the drama part. A lot of hard-core sci-fi junkies don't like it because of all the drama.

Never have been a Star Trek fan, though. I would like to see the newest movie.

Just finished watching it on the Tivo. The writers are starting to bring all the pieces together, such as what is a human? Where did the human Cylons come from, etc. While Elene Tigh was always a good Cylon candidate, her real role is even more interesting. Since today is Valentines Day, it was good to see Boomer come back to her human side. Hopefully, she will end up back with the Chief, and live happily ever after.

i could be all wrong cause my eyes glaze over a bit when it shifts to general hospital galactica mode, but, i'm thinking it was a folk tune that was ingrained in culture so the map would survive.

a little less conversation, a little more action please.
