I will be winning these as I do not care how much they go for. What should I expect to pay?

With that attitude. More than you should... :p

Anyway - they look to be in excellent shape physically. About the best I have seen for 10's with peerless tweets... (from what I could tell in the pics anyway)

I would guess you will end up around $125-$175. Then again, it depends on how bidding goes. They may not raise in cost from where they are at. (that is based on the fact they are 10's, I don't know how many people realise the peerless are the ones you really want.)

Good luck and enjoy. Let us know how it goes.

    Michael

Edit - found it funny he desribes them as
In those days, there was no marketing or exotic wood cabinets, only pure clean sound.
    and also as
    16” wide, 11 ½ “ deep and 28 ½” high – Rosewood 45 lbs each
Like Rosewood was what everything was made of in the 70's. They only started working with pressboard and woodgrained vinyl stickers because Rosewood was a **** to finish in another color (to make it look like something exotic. Pine for example....)
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)

Thanks McLoki, I have put in a max of 200, but I could go more if that is not enough. I am pretty determined to get the speakers

I just noticed there is only 16 hours left in the auction. You may get off cheap on this one. Best of luck.

Do those only have a 8" PR? Those are definitely the "original" M10's or Monitor 10's.

That's what I thought; the very 1st original M10's used an 8" PR rather than a 10". The one Bob quoted the specs from seems to be a later gen just based on the black baffle surface. Who knows for sure. :)

That's very possible. I made a quick look back through some of my papers and this was the oldest, just plain 10 I came up with. I might have more info on these around somewhere....

Looking at the two versions of the "Mon-10" I just don't don't see a difference in scale as to the room taken up by the two mids which are 13"across total and the PRs underneath them. I'm guessing then that even the "brown faced" Monitors were built with 10" PRs like the "black faced" ones. What do you guys think?

Bob, you are correct, the original 7's used a 8" Pr. The 10's, from start to finish , always had a 10" Pr.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

The two images you have are still early versions.

Note: the Peerless tweeters in both. Didn't they get the SL2000 in the later versions?

They went from Peerless (HL1000), to sl1000, to sl2000 in mid to late 80's. Series 2's had the sl2000.

That's clicking with my memory now.........it was the 7's that started out with a smaller PR in the beginning. Thanks Jake.

You are correct Bob McG all the 10's had a 10" PR.

I have always wondered why Polk changed from 8" Pr's to 10" Pr's. Seems to me that the 6.5 midbass drivers would have drove (moved), the 8" Pr alot easier. With an 8" Pr having alittle more excursion, the bass responce would have been better. Maybe not...

Full power, seems the 10" on ly has a Xmax of about ~3mm-4mm. Where as maybe double that for the 8". An 8" with ~6mm-8mm or even 10mm, would have performed better, no?

If there's one more bidder that thinks like you do, you might pay thousands ;)

They do look in pretty good condition; are you picking them up? Lots of stories of drivers getting frozen due to shipping...

    Good luck.

I am going to have them shipped, I am hoping they arrive in good condition, but I am a bit worried about the drivers getting frozen on their way to me. By the way, the bid now is 200.00 not including shipping!!

FWIW... The very original Polk Audio Model 10 had a plain-paper (not coated-paper) PR.
The ones I have also lack the Polk hole (i.e., the hole that Polk polked) in the Peerless tweeters. I think the hol(e)y Peerless came a bit later.

The originals do have the paper Pr. But still excellent. Those seem to have been replaced with the new Pr.

Almost two hours to go and already at $200...You are free to do what you want, but if it was me I would stop bidding. You can find them on ebay for less than that frequently, and they also show up on local craiglists. Just a thought.

I paid $50 for a beautiful pair of Monitor 10's with a bad poly, $50 for a ok set of Monitor 7C's, and $50 for a MINT set of Monitor 7's with Peerless tweets. Just keep your eyes on Craigslist.

Good luck...but your talking about alot of money for Monitor 10s. Facter in possible shipping damage and it seems a bit excessive.
