Just promise me you won't let the dealer install vinyl stripes, too many horror stories on that one. Fake scoops are for ricers, if you want a hood scoop, listen to Jstas and get a Shaker.

I personally like the black between the rear tailights. I was just certain the previous gen Mach 1's had that, too, but I could NOT find a pic of one on google. Was that the Bullitt? Or am I making it up?

    christ sakes!

just heard from the dealer, the orange is not available!!!!

however, keeping in the tradition that every new car i ever buy will be BLACK, there is the black with red interior i was looking at another dealership still available. I do like black, pain in the **** to keep clean though. the red interior, muchas sexy though.

limited since I am trying to get this under clearance with the 3.9 financing.

funny thing is, black was my first choice when first looking into these cars.

    Those Halibrands are BAD ****!!!!

And yes Lou, they can be painted black. They come only in the Magcoat finish, satin and polished. You can get the Magcoat finish painted in any color you want.

If you don't like the Halibrand, go with another Mustang classic and pick up a set of Cragars like the series 610's:

    series610_160x160.gif

Which are a new twist on the old Series 61 which was new in 1961.

    series61_160x160.gif

I just wish you could get the old Keystone Klassic (Series 32) in a modern size:
    series32_160x160.gif

That's the wheel that came on the original Mach 1's, the BOSS 302 and BOSS 429 and the Shelby GT350 and GT350H.

Black would look good but I would only go with those wheels if you can get the orange color. Honestly, I'd hold out as long as I could for the orange color.

If you end up going with Black, get silver racing stripes!

No matter what color you get, honestly, go to JDM Engineering. Jim is the owner and he'll take care of you. He installs everything he sells and he's a wizard on the DynoJet with his Superchips tuners. He has a whole section for 05-08 Mustangs with TONS of go-fast goodies! Since he's in Freehold, he's not that far from you at all.

    http://www.teamjdm.com/shop/index.php?cPath=35

If you do go to JDM and get some go-fast parts but he's all backed up and can't do the install work right away, let me know. It's a farther drive for you but I have a buddy with a shop who can do the work without a problem and I can probably get you a discount on the labor. Then you just take it back up to JDM and get Jim to do the dyno tune and you'll be rocking almost 400 horses in your brand new, bad-**** Mustang!

Oh and audiobliss, I think that the 03-04 Mach 1's came with the black plastic insert between the taillights as an option. Not all of the ones I have seen had it. The 69-70 Mach 1 was body colored between the taillights I think but the 71-73 Mach 1 had the blacked out section. The 74-78 Mach 1's...well, we won't speak of those. One of the tuner Mustangs, the Saleens or the Roushs had a honeycomb grill on the back. I think it was the Saleen S281 Extreme that had it because I remember it also had a rear diffuser on the lower valance and I think the Extreme came with all that crap.

Some deep dish Tourque Thrust wheels would look great on any mustang.

I agree with the fact a CAI is not worth the money unless you also get things like a high-flow MAF. Cat back system and a K&N filter will give you an honest 8 horse gain and better throttle response. You can get a traction lok posi unit for around 400.00 installed with out gears.

    John,

definitly keeping that guy in freehold (plus your other guy) in the mental rolodex.

I'll certainly trust your judgement that he does good work, and lord knows I aint gonna wanna do this stuff myself

got back from the dealer, and the Black with the crimson red leather interior is a lock. the dealership will pick it up tomorrow, and I will pick it up tomorrow at around 5.

I was thinking silver stripes oddly enough for a black stang, but will that conflict with the red interior?

anyhoo, thats for a later worry. thanks all for the advise, and I'll keep yall posted :D

Hey, black's a good color, too!

And I can't see any clashing with black, silver, and red.

just got word that my car is at the dealership and being prepped as we speak. A number of people there never saw the crimson red interior, and were surprised how cool it looked.

will be picking it up at 5:00

gotta admit, I put more more importance on handling than power, but I heard I should let the car break in before I do it.

timewise, thats what I would do anyway. i"m gonna mod, but I'm gonna enjoy her as is for a short spell too.

I saw a thread on the mustangforums about the strut cross brace that..I swear...was exactly like the cable debate. couldnt help but laugh

Drive the car like you stole it. If you drive like grandma, the drive-by-wire will set the car that way.

If you have any questions, let me know, I've changed everything except the driveline.

I'm always amused at this phrase. When we see people driving cars that have actually stolen them, they end up getting in police chases and destroying them.

Drive it like a sports car was meant to be driven. All out.

+1:D It's a street car not a dragster. Set up the chassis so you can put all the power it has to the street and take a corner smooth and controlled and the fun factor of that car will go up 3x.
I felt an improvment adding a strut tower brace to my 96'. I like the ones that tie both towers to the firewall (cowl) rathyer then the ones that just cross the 2 towers. It is just one of the mods to do though, not the only one.

The S197 chassis is a LOT stiffer than previous designs so the effect you felt on the '96 won't be as dramatic on the newer models.

yup, todays piston rings are nothing like the old days either. You used to have to drive a few hundred miles before a engine was broken in and the rings sealed. Rings seal pretty quick now a days. I was out beating on my car and took it to the drag strip with less then 20 miles on the engine. :D

couple pics to start, she's a beaut!

getting more and more used to her, got about 0 miles on her. Polar opposite of the Volvo, and most of it is good.

the low end torque and cable clutch makes shifting a breeze compared to the hydro clutch of the Volvo.

these are quick pics from my cell phone, not the clearest, but not bad

If you can get the wheels from the red Mustang on your black Mustang, that would be totally freaking awesome! They look like Cragar SS61's! My favorite wheel! I had a set of Cragar SS98's on my Thunderbird which was an updated version of the 61 but in a 17 inch size.
