It's been a while, how about some updates.

Six photos now on the official website. Apparently you can flip some over to get secret messages.

    A new randomly related website.

There's also a website called Jaime and Teddy that is described more here.

In fact, that Cloverfield Clues website pretty much has all of this stuff, and way more.

It's fascinating how much of this crap there is to keep up with. I forgot about this movie until I saw a blog post about all of this today.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

LOL! Yeah, it got me too the first time. I was sitting there deep in thought over what possible cryptic meaning could be in those pictures and all of a sudden that bad **** roar breaks loose.

In most of the Giant monster attacks man movies the perspective was wrong or the mystery of it wasn't played for all it was worth. Put an audience in the characters shoes, make 'em feel the fear of what's around the corner or behind the door.
Blanket the whole movie in a fog of fear---that giant roar---approaching doom---unstoppable horror. Instead of an audience looking ariel view at a down rubber suited man stomping models, you go ground up view from street level, large buildings obscurring something fearful, military running in chaos.

What a great concept, if it's a Godzilla remake, a confused, chaotic ground up perspective running from firing soldiers, tanks and crushing debris raining down focusing on how damaging and truly helpless you would feel in the middle of all that.
A giant monster is much more scary with some mystery and a helpless feeling audience. Then add hatchlings with which to mine creepy bone crunching arm from socket chills from.

The two official trailers are effective and creepy.

In the same vein of better adaptations...the trailer for "I Am Legend" looks more promising than "Omega Man" with much chillier 'night creatures' and more effective first act.

Music Joe, I completely agree with you in premise, but there are ways to make the audience feel part of the action and in the dark without giving them motion sickness. I'm still dying to see how this movie plays out but given the trailer I think the camerawork will be a bit too distracting to make the movie enjoyable.

Blair Witch was the same thing - really made you feel ilke you were one of the victims, but when you're constantly dealing with a shaking blurry camera the "realism" is outweighed by the.... well, realism.

Good points Bob and Joe. You don't have to have over done special effects to be really frightening. Do you realize that in the original "Alien", the total time that the creature was seen on film was less than one minute!!

I'll give you that can happen. Blair Witch resorted to a small cheap cam to sell the idea of found video. This is closer to Open Water which used ocean motion to make viewer empathize with being trapped in-er-open water :(
The Cloverfield clips do have some seasick steady cam motion to 'em, which may spell vertigo on the big screen.
On the other hand if you review the Cloverfield trailers you begin to marvel at how they mimmick great steady cam work at the keys points. Coming off like the best in the business capturing a car chase, really neat considering it's probably all cgi. Or cgi inserted into really good steadycam work.
Watch again how that steady cam spins around then focuses and zooms simualtaneously for a perfect capture of the ?erruption/explosion? Again as Lady Libery's decapitated head ricochets off the skyscraper and plows the street. The effects really sold the scene with even the sidewalk spectators bouncing up with the cars as the statues head bounces along.

Some are sure to be critical of how pro the camera work looks for many of those big thematic shots are where it's supposed to be an ametuer on the run. These movies give me the vibe of summer season blockbusters near winter.

Bourne Ultimatum had that same shaky camera crap and it nearly ruined a great movie. Im not that big a fan of the first person perspective in movies. Video games - great. Movies - not so great.

That being said, the new trailer looks confusing mainly from all the cuts and edits. The film quality looks very good and Im hoping the film will have more continuity than the trailers appear to have.

This is still a great concept and the first trailer and the awesome monster roar had me sold from the beginning. Ill be there for opening day!!

Thats a rip off. Its basically the first trailer, just extended.

1-18-08.com has a thread in its forum from somebody that has supposedly seen a private screening of the movie and he posts a run thru of the entire movie. Be warned tho, this could be full of spoilers if the author isnt full of BS which he probably is cause that 5 minute clip debunks a lot of what he said. Still an interesting read tho.

Yeah. The one thing I like from this "sneak peak" was that we get five continuous minutes, so you get an idea of how bad the cinemetography is going to be. It's definitely much better than Blair Witch, but it's still definitely a handheld. But from that clip it might be all right.

Yeah, Id much rather have had an actual movie instead of a bunch of stupid, shakey, virtually unwatchable scenes stuck together - but hey, good monster movies dont come along too often.

Yup. Thats the thing now. Just got back from I am Legend and they had a good bit of that shakey camera view going on. Apparently somebody in Hollywood thinks it looks cool. Hopefully somebody will have an induced seizure in a theater and sue some filmmaker and that should put an end to all that.
