Any of those amps will get the job done for you. All make quality equipment. If you don't want to get new, keep an eye out on Audiogon for those amps.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I tend to agree with the overkill thing. That cinova is way more than you need and it's not exactly wife friendly given it's size.Start with a used adcom, carver,B&K, for the front 3 channels.Either of those can be had used for 3-500 bucks and can be re-sold for the same if you don't like it.

    Don't forget Soundcraftsmen too!

For 6000 bucks are those Cinenova's even made somewhere that justifies that price? Last I heard they were manufactured overseas.

    $6000 is McIntosh territory.

I read somewhere that the Cinenovas are hand assembled in CA, not sure if they are manufactured there as well.

the RMB-1095 can usually be had for around $1300-$1500, prices are a little low now because we are in a summer lull.

The Cinenova Grande 5 can usually be had for around $3000 new and <$2000 used.

the 3 5 and 7 all have the same power ratings. Not sure how as the modules are thinner for the 7 as opposed to the 5 and 3, unless they cut down on heatsinks.

Have you ever tried a chip amp to qualify that statement?
    edit: I guess not

I don't know of any subs that use them, care to name a few?

Yes. I had a Sunfire Cinema Grand 200x5, and I compared it to an Adcom 585. The Adcom beat it hands down. I was very excited about getting the Cinema. My friend was there, and she also did not like the sound. I unhooked it after 20 minutes and sold it! Nothing was better about the Cinema except cool running. It was way to edgy IMHO. Almost all sub plates are chip amps.

Here is a link to my comparo

Thats right, you tried the Sunfire for a while and flipped it. Just a FYI, the Cinema isn't a chip amp.

Chip amps are a type of amp that feature few parts and the shortest possible signal paths. They are all based around op-amps like the LM3886, and generally have low levels of capacitance. Their main benefit is they sound great and yet are very cheap to build (I bought my 2ch 50wpc for ~$160).

With the subs comment you are mistaking class D power with chip amps I assume. Chip amps are all class a/b by design.

To me anything not A-A/B, and of the high efficiency design does not do well with sound(I left out tubes). Check out the link. I am not going to go over all the post there. Yes I did flip it very quickly. It did not take long to figure out that I did not like it. Thats my opinion, and it is shared by many others that I respect their opinions. I was very disappointed in my purchase, and I wouldn't feel right for not sharing my experience. If someone likes these kinds of amps that is great. The hobby should be to enjoy. I am not trying to offend anyone. For the kind of cash being spent I would think seriously about getting Adcom, parasound, or a few others with less watts, but better SQ.
