In my opinion, Pearl Harbor was a pretty terrible movie (special effects aside). And, the "wow" factor in the Island should be mostly attributed to casting. . . Scarlett Johannsen ;)

I wish Bay / Bruckheimer would change up the music from time to time. While Transformers was a very exciting and impressive summer blockbuster, I kept thinking I was watching Armageddon, the Rock, or even Bad Boys II.

I'd say most of the "wow" was Bay himself, not Spielberg. After all, Bay does better. Last film of Spielberg's that impressed me was Jurassic Park, since then, average at best when it comes to the "wow" factor. Yet Bay with Pearl Harbor, The Island...etc, some great "wow" in those.

Yeah I agree. Bay can make some great action shots but with no soul to his movies. Spielberg can add depth and character to his movies. It worked as I actually cared for these CGI robots ! Thereforth they made a great directing/producing duo for Transformers.

Good movie, very nicely done special effects and CGI. The story and the acting, I'll forgive them as this was clearly for the younger crowd. If I was 20 years younger I would be the target audience but even then an enjoyable movie.

Saw for a THIRD time. In my defense, each time was with a friend who had yet to see it... so just sharing the love. Not trying to start some Titanic trend or what have ya.

I have a quick question that I have yet to figure out. Where the hell was Barriade in the final battle?
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

That's all well and good for sheep, but if my original question isn't anwered in the next then minutes... I will be forced to torture this baby penguin.

Ask yourself this.... would you want that on your conscience for the rest of your life?

    Calm down Francis.

Barricade had exited filming towards the end of the movie under the Federal Family Medical Relief Act of 1993. Give a robot a break...

Indeed Polkatese. It's a kick-arse flick and really got better each and every time...

And Google and you shall receive

Barricade was damaged by Bumblebee. After he had repaired himself, he answered the Decepticons call during the final battle, but he disappears after the freeway scene.

In the novel adaption, Barricade was taken down by Optimus Prime right after he destroyed Bonecrusher. The reason why this scene wasn't included in the film is still unclear.

However, in a recent interview with the writers (http://transformerslive.blogspot.com/2007/07/kurtzman-and-orci-post-move-q.html) the disappearance is mentioned and although the writers do not explain why the scene was cut (possibly because it happened by accident), they hint that Barricade might return in the sequel

And I've the put the taser down. No way I'm mixing it up with that bulldog shooting lasers out of it's eyes at me.

Finally got to see this one too.

I did think it was good but I also thought it couldve been a lot better. If theyd scrapped the whole "section 7" thing I think it wouldve been a lot better and moved along a little quicker. To me it got bogged down when Turturro appeared.

I played with Transformers as a kid so it was cool to see them in a movie.

Was also cool to have the guy that did the voice for the cartoon do the voice of Optimus Prime in the movie....at least it sounded a lot like him.

My one complaint tho is that they were a bit too "busy" looking. Especially Megatron and Starscream. It was hard to see what they were.

That is kinda stupid, as VW is marketing to the "younger crowd" last I checked....I think a New Beetle transforming into a badass robot would sell a lot of cars, besides being more accurate to the original.....Maybe make the New Beetle less homo, who knows....:D

A very lispy: "Can we fight with swords. . ?":D

I don't know if it was the sound in the particular theater I was in, but the sound was amazing. It will be nice to have a smaller pressurized room for the low-end to really make things interesting. Must have disc.

I think they were sticking to the comics. I've got a few old Transformers comic books and if I remember correctly Sector 7 was part of it. I'll have to take a look again.

Yes, one thing I heard a lot of was Bay's desire to stick with the darker, more adult oriented story in the original comics. Bay fought the casting of Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime because he was the same voice in the cartoon series and the cartoon movie. He also fought the inclusion of the "transforming sound" from the cartoons because he was trying to move away from the kiddie, love/peace fest that was the cartoons and get back to the original, much more interesting story in the comic books. Afterall, how may movies can one make about the Decepticon's never-ending quest and thirst for Energon without being called "preachy" because of current energy and environment concerns in mainstream media.

The stuff like Cullen and the "sound" made it in because of all the people about 25-35 that grew up watching Transformers and playing with the toys. The marketing machine would have taken a HUGE hit if they didn't pander to those nostalgic themes to a certain extent.

The Sector 7 stuff isn't dead either if I remember the comic books right. It re-appears as an underground thing in the future. I mean, what better way to have a secret organization than a presidential decree that that organization be disbanded and all funding and resources be removed?

There is much more to this story and with the box office take Transformers made and is STILL making, there will be a sequel. Especially since the DVD will likely fly off the shelves.

I thought the movie was excellent. Great sound effects. Good enough plot. Lovely lady. Great action scenes. What more do you want out of an action movie?

Within minutes of putting in the disc, my wife commented on the image quality (HD DVD).

    Eagerly awaiting the sequel.
