What to do with HOA that won't help with a safety concern?

I'm pretty sure that I've seen a note in one of my HOA newsletters suggesting people park in their driveways when possible for easier emergency vehicle access and safety. It was a suggestion and by no means a law or enforceable rule. People park on the street here all the time.

I don't see how having the suggestion in a newsletter hurts anyone. I don't see it as being all that useful either, but all the lashing out seemed silly to me.

There are plenty of new housing developments near here that don't have HOA's. If I didn't want one I would have chosen to live elsewhere. But I like the fact that my neighborhood is well kept and the fact that property values are higher here than at non-HOA neighborhoods. When looking for my house last year, it was amazing to see the difference in the quality of neighborhoods built at the same time -- ones with HOA's looked *much* nicer, had lower crime rates, and a trend of rising property values as opposed to stagnant or lowering.
