Why would you do that to your tires?

The tires I run are a DOT approved racing tire. They are made of a different compound then your everyday tire. When you do a "burnout" (peel the tires) this causes them to get hot and sticky. When you are at the race track you want the tires to stick to the ground when you start off the line and this makes you accelerate faster. If you are spinning your tires you are losing time. This is why I do it.

Thank you. It's a fun car, but I broke it and it's been sitting idle for a while now.

Engine is a 388 stroker and behind that is a Th-350 manual valve body transmission with a 3500 stall converter. Rearend is a Ford 9" with a detroit locker and 3.70 gears. Before I got the rearend it was running 12.4-12.5's with a 3.08 open rear. I changed a few things and also switched to the 9".

On my first shakedown pass with the new setup I ran a 12.25@111 and broke my driveshaft, transmission, exhaust, and put a hole in my floor boards. LOL I haven't recovered from it yet and i'm slowly putting it back together now. It should be running 11.70's when im done, fully streetable. I live 50 miles from the race track 1 way and never trailered it. Although I did have a nice tow bill that day I broke :(

and my Screen name should be a give away LOL It is a 1966 Nova Super Sport also known as a ChevyII

Sorry to hi jack your post appadv I can take it to a PM if you want.
Yeah, I'm not NEAR enough 'with it' tonight to be putting things together like screen name, car videos, file names, etc.

That is one awesome car, for sure! That last run sure was a bummer, though! Well, damage-wise, at least...

A friend's dad has a 1966 Chevelle with a 385, Muncie 4-speed, and a 3.42 rear end. Tooke me out for a ride in it....:eek: Awesome ride, for sure! He's going to take it to the 1/8-mile track this Firday night if it doesn't rain...and I'll be there video taping it if it doesn't rain!

To keep things on topic, as far as sway bars go. A few things can influence how much they make a difference in ride quality. Poly mid link bushings can make the ride a little more jarring. Obviously the side of the bars and also the endlinks can also make a difference.

That a pic of your car?

On topic, I would like to know to what extent sway bars are adjustable. Meaning to be able to change the stiffness of the ride without making significant changes to the car.

    Yes, that's my baby.
    585183916_l.jpg

I used to run adjustable sway bars on another car. They're great, you can adjust under/oversteer or make the car neutral again, they aren't designed with ride quality in mind. In my experience, most aftermarket sway bars are not adjustable though.

I'm in central Suffolk. I probably won't be taking the car out again for a few weeks or maybe not till next next year though. I sprained my back, neck, and shoulder last month and don't feel like making things worse. :D

    Thank you.

There are no drag strips left on Long Island. The last one, Westhampton, closed about 4 years ago. I usually go to Englishtown or Atco NJ.

Totally depends on if you can afford losing that 30% left. That's the only thing at stake. If you don't care about that and want to experience new braking performance, then go ahead and go for it.

Decided that since the old brake pads were near worn, I'd replace them eventually anyways.

So today the car got a set of Hawk Performance brake pads and rotors, and WOW what a difference in braking performance! It feels like a totally different car. I am surprised that just changing the brake pads and rotors could have such a HUGE difference!

    One more question,

When running high performance tires, should the tire pressure be increased slightly vs. a passenger car/touring tire? The recommended tire pressure is 29psi but I find with the new tires, 32psi provides better handling and response.

That's awesome that the braking performance increased so much. Sounds like you really are turning this into a totally different car!

I'm not sure about how different 'type' tires perform with different pressures. Generally speaking, and with a degree of mediation:

The lower the pressure, the higher the grip, softer the ride, higher the wear.
The higher the pressure, the lower the grip, harder the ride, lower the wear.

With the original tires, 29psi was fine and had a nice, soft ride. But with the new Hankook tires, 32psi seems to be better.

AB - am I correct in my reasoning or this makes no sense?

Also, when you say the higher the wear, do you mean the tires won't last as long?

Too low or too high of pressure can be bad for tire wear too. If I ran my old Nitto 555's higher than 30psi, the centers would wear out much quicker than the rest of the tire. Meanwhile, most other tires I run at 32psi.
