I wasn't being condescending. It's just great to see someone who is so interested in a hobby that I love so much.
Usually I see people who are car guys, and then people who aren't car guys. I don't typically see people being interested and learning more about the hobby.
This has been a great thread. You've asked so many good questions, gotten good advice, and you've acted on it!
There was nothing negative to what I said.
Didn't mean that, sorry...
I find it nice that, not only do you know so much about cars, you are willing to share this information and answer my questions.
And yes, I have enjoyed this thread.
So far I've only done the K&N intake and installed high-performance tires (Hankooks), but it looks like Friday will be the day for upgraded brake pads and rotors.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

I can't imagine how much of a difference you're experiencing. Intake filter, tires, wheels (did you say you did that?), brake pads and rotors...that's awesome. I bet it'd be fun to be able to experience the car's handling before and after.George Grand wrote: »

Basically, everything you said except wheels. There are just too many to choose from and I'm not sure how to tell the difference. So haven't really looked into wheels yet.
As per the brake pads, there are still like 30% remaining of the original pads, do you recommend to wait a little longer before installing upgraded pads/rotors?polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

Totally depends on if you can afford losing that 30% left. That's the only thing at stake. If you don't care about that and want to experience new braking performance, then go ahead and go for it.George Grand wrote: »

Hahahaha. I've gone through four right rear tires in about three years. But I'm not sure that's really representative of how long they SHOULD last!
Really depends on the type of tire, type of vehicle, type of driving, and if the suspension is set up correctly. I could be totally wrong on this, but it seems like Dad's happy when he can get 40k - 60k on a set of tires on his Suburban. Of course, the smaller and lighter the car, generally the longer the tire life given that all the other variables remain constant.
Brake pads...I dunno, really.George Grand wrote: »

Hahahahahaha. It's not the roads. It's the right foot being planted in corners that does it! But I've had this last right rear tire on for a while and it looks just like new. I'm taking care of it.
It's time to start driving more responsibly.George Grand wrote: »

Even if they were a little used, it still doesn't mean they can't last a long time.
Still debating over the brake pads though. The original pads have lasted so long already, but there is still some material remaining.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

Hahahaha. I'll change the rearend (rear axle, actualy) no doubt when I lift it; but I'm not going to waste money on a limited slip for a Cherokee when it never goes off road.
And yes, driving on bald or next to bald tires is dangerous.
I remember driving home on rainy night with an almost bald right rear tire it would lose traction whenever I hit expansion joints on bridges or whenever I just put the hammer down....at 85mph! :eek:George Grand wrote: »

Why would you do that to your tires?
Hopefully you'll understand one day. Though hopefully you'll have the restraint to keep from frying all your tires within a few months.
Do I want bald tires? No. Do I want to burnout around every corner? You beat ya!

If you don't understand, then you just don't understand. And of course it'd be harder to understand with a front-wheel drive car, especially a non-performance oriented front-wheel drive.George Grand wrote: »

I fail to see how I even implied my Cherokee was performance oriented. It's not.

Thank you. It's a fun car, but I broke it and it's been sitting idle for a while now.
Engine is a 388 stroker and behind that is a Th-350 manual valve body transmission with a 3500 stall converter. Rearend is a Ford 9" with a detroit locker and 3.70 gears. Before I got the rearend it was running 12.4-12.5's with a 3.08 open rear. I changed a few things and also switched to the 9".
On my first shakedown pass with the new setup I ran a 12.25@111 and broke my driveshaft, transmission, exhaust, and put a hole in my floor boards. LOL I haven't recovered from it yet and i'm slowly putting it back together now. It should be running 11.70's when im done, fully streetable. I live 50 miles from the race track 1 way and never trailered it. Although I did have a nice tow bill that day I broke
and my Screen name should be a give away LOL It is a 1966 Nova Super Sport also known as a ChevyII
