The mids are way to shiny to be from the Polk MWXXXX series and that PR is all wrong. They may have started life as Monitor 10's, but I wouldn't even bet a buck on that.

Reaton, can you pull out the mid drivers and PR to see what is written on their backs.

I will presume you haven't seen an original, hand doped Polk midrange? The PR looks different from the pairs I've seen, but it doesn't mean it's wrong.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I pulled out one of the mid's and it was hard to make out a couple of the numbers but this is what I was able to make out:

No, the PR(Passive Radiator) is what most would say is a woofer.

It doesn't matter, there's not a soul in here who could say it is or isn't original unless it said something obvious on the back.

Ok, I pulled out the woofer and there are no numbers on the back. These poor things feel like their in Anatomy class being disected! :D

What ever comes out of this discussion, I do know these speakers sound amazing!! My Dad has the SDA 1C which is what prompted me to purchase these when I found them.

I said they were not MWXXXX series and I was correct. I didn't say anything about hand doped drivers. So, the numbers are posted, mean anything to you? As far as the PR. If you, of all people, haven't seen that one, it can't be a Polk.

One thing I think we can all agree on is that they are not Monitor 10B's.

Excuse me, but I don't recall saying that they were common MW series, only hand doped. If they are hand doped, that automatically means they aren't.

The MON10 was all over the place and you never know what you're going to get.

I only stated that it was a paper PR and that it didn't look like the ones I've seen in the past. It doesn't mean anything more than the words that were typed.

Reaton - Good luck with your sale, I now officially could care less.

Well, they don't look hand doped to me, they almost look plastic.

Anyway.....Reaton, if you'd indulge me another favor. Are there any wires connected to the PR (woofer)?

Thank you. Definitely not Monitor 10B's, but possibily an early version of the Monitor 10. The custom stands are very nice, well worth some money themselves.

Interesting...so the 10B's would have wires going to the PR but the 10's would not? Perhaps the guy told me wrong when I bought them but I still have the sheet he gave me that is a table of the different Polk speakers and he had highlighted the 10B's, 10's were not even on the table. Who knows...still sound great and still for sale!

Reaton, no that's not what I meant. A passive radiator by definition would never have wires. What I meant was that the 10B's PR looks very different than yours. In addition, the 10B's would have a different tweeter, different mids and a different binding post plate.

they appear to be some version of a Monitor 10.. but somewhere along they way they may have been altered... with different drivers. but then maybe not. but they have some unusual characteristics (sp) about them.

check ebay or audiogon for current prices people are willing to pay.

    good luck with your sale.

Thought so. The only things throwing me are the mid-bass drivers and the square crossover plate but doro seems to think it's all good and he knows more than me :o:)

No pics of the back online (my pair is pictured here). Mine have the round plate with a single fuse and a pair of smallish binding posts.

Yank, thanks for the pics. Those mids do look the same. Curious about the different plates.

BTW, those cables look like they're turning green.

I believe that he was looking for a buyer, so I registered, and am now ready to throw in my

    $0.02.

I believe that the PR is original, just missing the round pressed paper bumper usually glued over the outer surround.

reaton . . . you have your first official offer. :D Let me know where to come pick them up.
