What I find unfathomable is that I tow, and have been towing some pretty heavy loads for long distances, and the tranny is still original with zero maintenance done to it.

Dude! get that thing serviced! When it grenades (right next to your right leg and spleen) things won't go well and we care for your well being. Just saying.

When I went in to go get it serviced, my mechanic (and others as well) stated not to do a thing and they actually advised against doing anything to it at all. I didn't know it at the time I bought the truck but apparently, the transmission they used in this truck is "arguably the world's greatest transmission ever built".

Those are not my words, just what I have read from multiple sources.

The fact that many newer trucks have already been to the shop with drivetrain issues is (to me) a testament that they may be right. Especially knowing some of the loads I have towed over the decades with her. I definitely do not drive the truck like a granny and some of the loads I have hauled were beyond what it's actually rated for.

Hopefully you've changed the tranny filter a time of two in that amount of miles...

I have done literally zero maintenance to the tranny during this time. None. Nada. Zilch. Nothing...

I'd venture to say that even if it does go at this point? I'd say I got my money's worth out of her. She has been my money maker for a long time and would be well worth the investment to simply replace or rebuild the tranny.

  • Interesting picture. These guys run a sawmill close to Athens GA. They were featured on The Discover Channel.

As a longtime (albeit erstwhile) cat owner (cat staff co-manager, more accurately speaking):
    1) I have no reason to suspect this image has been photoshopped.
    2) I have no reason to be concerned about the health or welfare of this kitteh.

My first computer had a huge for the time 4gb hard drive. Now that wouldn't be enough to load an operating system on.

  • Recent snow in California (Evidently caused by Global Warming Climate Change :D )

    PS Having some fun TODAY:
Weather Just the opposite in 1977-1978 the week after Christmas, flew to SF on Eastern Airlines and drove to Lake Tahoe to ski. No Snow anywhere (Evidently caused by Global Warming as it was called then. >:) ).

On New Years Eve watched Atlanta Falcons loose to Dallas Cowboys 20-17 during the day. Celebrated New Year in Reno Nevada at Harrah's Resort and Casino. The only thing close to a big avalanche of snow was the number of people who came from California to celebrate at the Casino. People were shooting firecrackers inside. There were so many people in Reno that authorities closed the roads from the west.

Wanted to visit Ben Cartwright but didn't have time. Saw the signs to the "pretend" ranch park.

    Note:
Same year, the Blizzard of 1978 called (The Cleveland Superbomb) struck the northeast between the end of January through the first week of February.
