Mrs. H has been cleaning out some old, old files lately -- as one does during the Time of COVID
She found a photo of our house in Milpita, CA ("House 2.1" ) -- which I believe is the photo that the listing agent took of it when we put it on the market in early 1991 (and moved back East). She helped us buy the house when we bought it, and she helped us sell it, too, two years later. She made a lot of money off of us in a pretty short time
Houses like that in that -- quite nondescript -- neighborhood were goin' for about 1.2 million pre-COVID-19.
I mean, it was a nice enough little house (4 BR, about 2000 ft^2 by "California-style" assessment of size, sittin' on, like, 1/6 of an acre or something like that) -- but 1.2 million...
Freakin' Silicon Valley.

I'm not sure......
That was a base-level Cavalier that I bought used from a neighbor in MD when I needed a car (grad school days). It was a horrible car in almost all respects. I still kind of liked it.
The best thing about that car -- when the water pump died one day on the way to work in Cambridge, MA (and to make a long story short) it was repaired at The "Car Talk" garage (Good News Garage) in Cambridge, MA, which was literally across the street from the administrative offices of the biotech company I was working for in those days (1991 or 92).

Mark, great picture!
Each picture of this comet reminds me of the day I saw the Hale-Bopp Comet for the first time on a day in March of 1997. I got out of my car at the family home where I grew up. It was dark and there it was in the NW sky where I had gazed so often at the big dipper and other constellations as a kid. My father had died two days earlier and a few family members had met my mother and me at the family house after visitation at the funeral home. When I saw the Hale-Bopp Comet "just sitting" there in the sky, a peaceful feeling came over me. My father's funeral was the next day.

So I found this frog the other day.. I can't ID it but would assume it's arboreal because it was resting in a tree but I have never seen one like this... Is it in some stage of shedding it's skin? I just called it a Watdufluck Frog....

If he's still around in a couple weeks after shed he may likely change colors and be identified easier...keep an eye out on him and keep taking pics

Most amphibians shed once or twice a month and can be more. Usually it happens very quick like, unlike other animals which can take days to weeks to completely shed.

When it comes to dark sky photography, I have three problems. First and foremost, I just ain't a great photographer! Second is that I am not too adept at getting critical focus at "true infinity" (the modern Nikon lenses, at least, focus past infinity... I'll leave you to ponder the philosophical significance of that!). Third -- thanks to our son (who's a fine fellow!), I have a new DSLR body as of this spring. The new one is superior to the old one in every way, but it's also smaller and lighter than the old one, and seems more prone to shutter shake (vibration) than the old one. Last night, I tried an experiment to tackle the third issue (can't do much about the other two). I covered the front of the lens by holding a piece of dense black closed-cell foam sheet (the kind of stuff they sell at Michael's for crafts) in front of it, opened the shutter, pulled the foam out of the way, counted off most of the exposure time I'd set and covered the lens again just before the shutter closed. I figured this would 'filter' the shake out of the final exposure.
It did seem to help (although I didn't really do it as a properly controlled study). One photo's attached FWIW. Nominal 10 sec exposure (actually a little less, due to the "manual shutter" gambit) @ ISO 10,000 with a focal length of 70 mm (on a DX format sensor, so that's equivalent to about 100 mm for the traditional "35 mm" film format) at f/5.0. Taken at 10:13 pm EDT last night. We do have some light pollution issues to the northwest due to a strip of shopping centers not all that far (as the crow flies) from us.
