My son. Learning the basics of marksmanship.

If anyone is offended please let me know and I'll take it down.
I was going to let him shoot the 300 Ultra Mag but did not want the wife to kill me.

    heh.

    Yes, you can.

Roll your own AVC, that is.

    :)

Not mine, but I am fiddlin' with it as I type this, and it's -- rather remarkably good.

The only problems: 1) it's dual mono (two knobs to turn)
and 2) it's not audio taper... it's Variac taper.

    B)

DIY proof of concept by my local vacuum tube hifi chum, Alan.

I spent some quality time trying to plink a groundhog earlier today -- but the rascal was (is) wily.

It's a big, fat one -- natural selection and all that, I fear. :(

I like groundhogs. All of the ones in our backyard are called Gordon, regardless of sex. Not that I know how to determine the sex of a groundhog. Nor do I know the feminine of Gordon - Gordette?

Best to teach them early. Not toys, but definitely something to enjoy. Does he know the first 2 rules?

A .22 in the ear does the trick... Need to headshot them, otherwise they can shake off a .30 carbine round...

Yup, that I have learned empirically :)

Groundhogs are cute but when they start eating stuff besides grass and weeds in the yard -- it's... well... time for them to go.

Not something I enjoy doing, but I get distressed by seeing hard work in the yard being eaten by America's second largest rodents. :|

True for many of the critters here -- not so sure about these guyses.
    I am a biologist, and pretty pro-critter.
Not pro-groundhogs, though -- nor chipmunks (but there are predators that help keep them in check).
