You said it THUG...here in Chicago,Florida, the east coast, all are under siege by property grabbing money hungry politicians. The actor Mel Gibson said it so wisely in the movie the PATRIOT.....[ why should I trade one tyrant 3000 miles away for 3000 tyrants 1-mile away ? An elected body can trample a mans rights just as easy.] Nothing is a safe bet anymore.

It's all about gridlock people. If we all **** and moan long enough about what we don't like, sooner or later we won't be able to do anything legally. What comes around goes around, smokers have compromised. We now are relagated to smoking in our own homes, cars, or outside (well, for now)---everything else is off limits. If you don't see the compromise in that, you're just selfish. Plain & simple.

Just remember, while you're walking down the sidewalk behind the a-hole smokin a cig, you are thinking the same mean thoughts that smokers are, as we walk our country mile to the designated "smoking area."
See, we have ALOT in common.

compromise? so you think the guy walking down the street behind the smoker is not compromising at all?

you think not being able to smoke on a plane is a compromise you have to make? I'm sorry but its the other way around. By allowing you to smoke, everyone else is compromising the clean air they could be breathing and the smell they have to endure that gets into their hair and clothes. smokers don't think this is a big deal because they are used to inhaling that crap.

Privately owned places like bars and restaurants should be governed by their owners. But don't act all high and mighty just because you are not allowed to smoke in *public* places. I'm sure no one has a problem telling off some dumbass who brings a boombox to a restaurant and blasts it loud. Sound pollution, air pollution its all the same. Non-smokers make a compromise anytime they have to be around smokers.

Next time you sit down for a meal at a restaurant, imagine someone at the next table lighting up a big sack of horse$hit. But he's sitting in the horse$hit smoking section and your not so you can't say anything about it. Tell me then that YOU are not compromising.

I don't have anger towards smokers. I have anger towards the attitude that non-smokers don't "compromise". Most people that have a problem with someone else smoking will either quietly endure it or move someplace else. That is compromise and its what most non-smokers will do. Its what I've always done and the inability of smokers to see this pisses me off.

I'm not the least bit angry. Smokers can puff to their hearts content & kill themselves in the process if they so choose. So long as they aren't killing everyone else's lungs while they kill their own. So if that means that they are relegated to their own homes, cars & outside where I have enough room to get the hell away from them, then I'm happy.

They are also free to jump off a cliff & kill themselves, but they are NOT entitled to take anyone with them.

Cigarettes are simply a slow method of suicide, unfortunately it can spread to other innocent people/animals thanks to whichever way the wind blows.

A man who used to live in our building smoked up a storm. His dog had to be put down for lung cancer. The man died a few months later of the same disease!

What does that tell you about second hand smoke?

    All good points...

We were waiting for a table at a restaraunt a couple weeks ago and had to wait outside. It was raining outside. While we waited for half an hour for our table, people who were also waiting to be seated constantly stood there right at the front door, smoking to their heart's desire. Of course they didn't want to get wet, can't say I blame them for that...but seriously, I mean come on. You can obviously see that there are several people all crowded around the front door waiting for a table and don't want to get wet, and then you just come up and light up right in the midst of everyone. That's VERY inconsiderate, and it happens ALL the time, not just this one time.

So I can't deal with the smell of smoke, I won't even go somewhere that has a smoking section because I appear to be very sensitive to it for some reason, it's not just unliked, I have some kind of physiological reaction that makes nausiaus. So now I get get to go stand out in the rain and wait for my table. I'm the non-confrontational type (big ****) so I'm not going to cause a scene saying something to the inconsiderate morons, it's easier for me just to go stand in the rain...

If that's not compromise, then what is...

And the "If you would let them smoke inside, they wouldn't be outside in your face" argument isn't going to work, because I've seen this in smoking establishments also...

Some smokers are just plain **** rude and I make no excuses for those ideots but if you are that sensitive to smoke why are you trying to go to a place that allows smokeing ? DONT GO THERE!!!!!You have a CHOICE.No one is twisting your arm to eat there are they?Plenty of non smokeing places to eat all over in every city.Or is it cause smokers are much more fun to be around and our outstanding charm and personality that draws you to these places?

There are alot of non-smokers that tolerate our habit, I readily admit to that, I slowly kill I-SIG (Wes) everytime he comes down--not really. He sleeps in our house which is smoke free, and I try my best to stay clear of him when I'm smoking (IN MY HOME). Why? I respect and like Wes, and I want him to enjoy himself.

Let's avoid the extremes here for a moment, you've got tolerant non-smokers and you've got courteous smokers, no doubt. These are 2 examples of people who have compromised. Of course you're gonna have a-hole smokers who want you to die with them, and you've got the anti-smokers who just hate cigarettes/smokers period. (my older brother is an anti-smoking ****, and I call him that regularly, he detest cigarettes).

I'm addressing everyone when I say that while you may feel safe targeting a particular group, because you don't engage in the behavior thats targeted, be careful, you might fall into a group that could be next.

I'm pretty sure that everybody does something that is harmful to them. Is there anyone here who lives a perfectly "safe" life? No risks? No coffee drinkers, no beer drinkers, no bungee jumpers, no motorcycle riders..?? Don't give me that crap about "well, yeah but they don't affect me" ****. A drunk driver will sure enough affect you, for good. As will a drug user, as will an inexperienced motorcyclist heading straight for your car, as will a poor driver. How many of you lead risk free lives? That's what gets me most about the anti-smokers; the holier-than-thou crap, like they take no unnecessary risk--hell, if I lived like that, I'd be mad all the time too.

So how about it, no bad habits non-smokers? Do you practice what you preach?

But my bad habits dont effect you - and they wont give me cancer or make me smell like I got dipped in tar...

    But...Yeah - I have bad habits...

this is an argument of percentages, sure everyone has a bad habit that can affect you and others. Around 25% of the country smokes..the chance that I will come across second hand smoke is much greater than that of some person on a motorcycle rams me head on or that drunk driver smashes into my car. Most of the things you bring up also have laws that ban them or limit them, it's not like I go go and bungee jump anywhere without risking a healthy fine.
