The gov. is playing drug dealer.
they outlawed cocaine, herion, crack, marijuana, barbituates, speed, and any other addictive substances they deem harmfull but they deal in tobacco?
Mucho dinero in tobacco. In fact I believe that tobacco helped build this country and now we have no financial way to ween ourselves off this addictive drug.
So the government taxes the hell out of it.
Look at the cost of gas. Another addiction of this country. Not many of us have the luxury of living within walking or biking distance of our jobs. Not all of us can take the bus to work. So therefore if we are not lucky enough to be able to survive off welfare we must get to work.
If you drive you pay taxes on gas that have nothing to do with the roads or air quality. They can jack these taxes up all they can get away with and we have no choice but to pay them.
Tobacco users are in the same boat.

People are loosing jobs over this, because yuppie punk-**** junior's old man died and now he's running the company. He's giving smoking employees 90 days to quit or they're fired. Entire states are looking at banning smoking IN THE STATE. In AMERICA.[/QUOTE]

if they ever ban smoking you are going to have alot of people go postal. Including me because they are having nic fits. If they want to ban smoking in resturants im fine with that but if we cant smoke outside thats where there is goingto be a big problem

Let me guess, you don't believe in global warming either do you? :p

Follow the link and watch the show they prepared. Penn and Teller is just one outlet for this, they both hate smoking, and they pointed out clearly that the data is not valid for the effects of second hand smoke. This is a fact, the 'facts' used to 'prove' the dangers of secondhand smoke are invalid.

    'Believe in global warming'

Let me guess, you don't analyze much of anything presented to you, do you?

Global warming is indeed a fact, the temperature is rising and weather is shifting.

However, why that is happening cannot be proven definitively. I'm supposing that you believe there is a definitive cause, say pollution and greenhouse gasses? That hasn't been proven and with the tiny splinter of useable data available vs the history of the earth, it won't be proven for centuries.

Stop being a sheep, break from the herd and think for yourself. Check your 'facts' and be critical of the sources.

Oh and incidentally, nothing having to do with saving the planet, I'm all for hydrogen fuel for vehicles or other means to drop emissions and make transportation more efficient and less costly. It's a simple matter of how you swallow the information vs common sense.

Trying to draw a similarity between an individual's *need* for gasoline and *desire* for nicotine is laughable at best. You're addicted? Boo hoo. No one ever forced you to light up the first time.

All of us pay taxes and I bet close to 90% of that money goes towards things we don't make use of or are a complete waste. Complaining about the part of those taxes that you have COMPLETE control over is ridiculous. Fix the other percentage of taxes that affect us all and we can't control . I don't have any kids, but I sure as hell pay alot for my neighbors brats to have an education.

    yeah.

I didn't just google that, I watched that show, I've watched all of their series actually. Netflix it, it is enlightening. I like to use them because they present the information in a simple, consumable manner. If I started linking to the raw data, people would never understand it. That is what special interest groups are banking on.

There are other sources for similar critical analysis out there, just not in the mainstream media. Unfortunately most 'facts' anymore have an agenda driving their origin. Even more unfortunate, most people never consider the source.

I have family relatives that live off the teat of tax/grant monies. Very bright, multiple PhD types. Their living relies upon their delivering data to keep those happy that issue the grant monies. They are all the first to admit that they must interpret the data in their fields to provide a suitable report...to continue their funding. This is where many of the studies done originate, the one study done that has been cited for decades in the secondhand smoke crusade came from this system.

We're both full of **** is my point actually. Just don't say that you can prove what you are saying, it is not possible. I never said that second hand smoke is definitively harmless. I can however say for sure that it hasn't been proven to be anywhere near as harmful as some would like us to believe. Until that happens, this is all a sucker's game, we are all being duped or victimized depending on which side we are on. That is my point.

Ask people what danger asbestos represents...I will guarantee you that you get a bunch of bunk over that as well. It is yet another overhyped myth, designed to make lawyers money and again victimize the public. There is indeed a risk with it, however it is nowhere near what the herd is led to believe.

When we both get our PHD's and engineering degrees then we'll have it out.
On that note, I'm going to save the Earth and walk ( ) to El Carrington and have a Taco and Cervesa for all the Polkies.
