First pair was rti-55's and then I purchased a pair of r10's to "compliment" them. Sold the rti-55's, traded the r-10's for rti-25's, traded them for rti-38's traded them for rti-10's, sold the rti-10's and purchased a pair of lsi-9's.... Ok, now I can take a breath...The greatest enemy of truth is very often not the lie - deliberate, contrived and dishonest - but the myth - persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.

The 2000's were very special sounding and stand out amongst their peers (well, the exception of the 3000 of course). Hearing Anthonys a year ago reminded me why I loved them. Sure, they aren't musical magicians... but they just had that 'it' factor.
Sorry, I am rambling - its easy to do when we talk about those specific Polk's. I have heard some other powered towers.. nothing has come close...
I initially started my Polk speaker collection with a pair of LS/FX surrounds I picked up at a pawn shop for $128 as my mains paired with a PSW300. My first 'real' pair of Polks was the RT2000p's. I showed up at the house with them in the back seat of my car and sheepishly told the wife I could return them if she really wanted me to. I loved them for 4 years and I only let them go because I managed to get my hands on a pair of the RT3000's. I won't be letting them go.____________________________________________________________

For me, they were the pair of RT25i that I bought for my girlfriend when she was living by herself in a small apartment. I was amazed at the sound from them small speakers with a just a basic Sony 100wpc stereo receiver. After we got married and moved into the house, I decided that the pair of RT25i in the bedrom were too good to be under utilized. I moved them out to the living room as mains to replace my Energy Take 5.2 system and eventually got a full set of 7 matching Polk RTxxxi series for my home theater/music setup with some cherry RT800i as the mains. I love the 800i, but I'd like to eventually get a hold of some vintage stuff like some Monitor 10s, 5s or some of the smaller SDAs to set up a dedicated 2-channel setup with some vintage electronics to go along with it. That probably won't be until we are in a bigger house with a "Man-Pit" though. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

The Screen name is obviously the start of my little Family of Polks. In 1985, I purchased a pair of 10B's off the dealer floor. A little music and wine and 20 years later I still have them. Now I have 2 pairs of 10B's, 2 pairs of 7B's, a pair of SDA SRS 2's, a project pair of RTA12B's, and 1 RTA11t. I also have a pair of crossovers for SDA1B and 10B. A mint pair of Peerless tweets and a pair of sl2000 tweets plus a pair of 10 inch passives. Having a hard time finding North on the compass for some reason.>

I started building my HT around a pair of cherry wood RT800i's. followed by a CS400i, then a pair of FX300i's, then added a PSW350.
Since then i've gotten rid of the 800i's and the PSW350.
I've gotten more into the vintage Polks lately. I have a pair of Monitor 7B's with peerless tweeters (love them). and also a pair of SDA SRS's circa 1985 (falling in love with them).
Next i'd like to own a nice mint pair of Monitor 10's with peerless tweeters. OR a mid sized pair of SDA's.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

About 1995 or so I got a nice 32" TV and a big ol' entertainment center to house it and threw in a new Onkyo CD changer. Well the CD player was great but I figured I wasn't getting the most out of the crap Yorx fake component system we had for years. A few days later I came home with a Monitor 6 series 2 sub/sat system with a CS200 center and pair of M3II's. Along with the Onkyo TXDS484 I brought home I was in Pro-logic heaven!
Since then the polks had been relegated to the basement but I never really got over how good that Monitor 6 setup sounded....being just smallish bookshelves and a passive sub (dual 6" no less). Parts have been given away but I am still running the basement Polk systen with the Monitor satellites as surround backs and still have the CS200 doing center duty. I have R20's as mains and R15's as surrounds and with a Pioneer 810 & Rotel rb971 doing the pre & amp duty, to my ears, it dosent' get much better for the money spent. -

Back in my 2 channel days I had a pair of big boxy floor standing Infinity 2000II's. After 20+ years of hard & heavy listening the woofers needed reconing, plus DW decides they were too big for the family room. Went in to replace them (1998) with a pair of bookshelf Infinities because I liked the Infinity sound. Salesguy suggested I listen to the RT7's and compare them to the Infinities. I was hooked. I still use them as the fronts for the family room HT with a pair of RT35i's in back, a CS400i, and a PSW450. With the 5 RTxx's in the rec room HT system, 2 in the kitchen, and 2 in my daughters room (she takes after dad) that gives us 14 in the house.

My first pair of Polks happened in the end of '88. I bought my first pair of '89 2Bs new. MSRP of $600 each got them for $550 each. Seems dealers could do that back then. I auditioned the whole SDA family available then (new 1.2; new 2.3; 1C; 2B and CRS+) and bought what I could afford... which was not what I wish I could have.

My first set are SDA1C's that I bought in 1989, still my main speakers. This year I installed the new replacement tweeters, and upgraded the crossovers and binding posts.
Didn't buy more Polks until this year, when I decided to go 5.1. Bought R15's as temporary surrounds, and a CSi40 center channel. Now I plan on replacing the the R15's with FXi30's that I am negotiating the purchase of today.
Now I have to decide what to do with the R15's. Perhaps the kitchen could use some sound, or the workshop... -

I just bought a pair of Polk RTI 70's about 2 months ago. They blew me away as an upgrade to an onkyo HTIB I had. I never realized how bad it sounded until I heard the 70's. Floor model RT2000p's were the first nice speakers I got.
I liked them so much I picked up the CS400i and the FX500i at later seprate times.
Once the rest of the system was in place I found the RT5000 system for sale locally thanks to this site. I have been on this site ever since and still have all my speakers.
I am considering selling the cs400 and fx500's though.Skynut

Like William, my first Polks were a pair of SDA-1C's that I bought around 1988, and I continue to use them everyday as mains in my home theater. I can still remember the day I brought them home. For some irrational reason I felt compealed to sneak them into the familyroom at night while my wife was asleep. Did I really think she wouldn't notice them when she woke up the next morning?
I bought my last pair of Polks last year, a pair of SDA-CRS+'s to serve as center channels to match up with the 1C's.

First pair and basis of my first thread was a pair of SDA CRS+ that I bought from a local estate sale for $30 this past summer. Didn't know anything about them but thought they looked good. They blew me away when I got home and I immediately upgraded the tweeters. They are perfect for my livingroom 2ch setup. Second pair also yard sale find for $15 is a pair of Monitor 4's that i am running as second set into kitchen/family room.

First pair were the original SDA SRS's purchased late 1980's for $1,400 "New" in their boxes. (They were actually used a couple of months.) Originally purchased from a Naval Exchange in Okinawa for $1,800 by a guy whom decided to sell them when he got out of the Navy as he wanted money to start a business. I sold those about 6 years ago for $1,600 when I moved to a smaller place. I always regretted selling them. The rest of my Hi Fi gear went into storage. Since then I had been using the matching surround speakers, SDS-400's, as bookshelf speakers in my bedroom. They have a surround bypass switch with 4 surround positions available. They actually sound good as bookshelf speakers. With these I used a Pioneer SA900 amp and TX900 tuner from 1970 and a Denon 1500II CD player.
I always regretted selling the original SDA's, so about 2 months ago I bought a pair of 1.2TL's on eBay for $1,800 which have cabinets that are not in the best condition. (I'll refinish them.) Bad news is, I am still in the same 12'X16' bedroom. But so are my 1.2TL's along with the rest of my gear from storage! The room may be to small but the 1.2's sure sound better than the bookshelf speakers. They are biamped with a DBX BX1. (4 ch mode, rated 200w per channel into 8 ohms) Had to remove a floor to ceiling bookcase to have room for the 1.2's and gear. Going to get more crowded in my bedroom though, as about to order a pair of CS 20-39+'s from SVC to put behind the 1.2's! Going to build a shelf above the 1.2's, length of the wall for Hi Fi gear. Plan to fill the space between the 1.2's with a 42" Plasma TV. I hope I don't blow out the walls! I sure hope my only neighbor likes music!Mains; SDA 1.2TL Silk Domes, upgraded xover, biamped w/DBX BX1 200wpc
