Monitor 7s, bought new in the Spring of 1987.

The store is still around, but hardly sells any audio equipment any more... all cell phones, pagers, Dish Network, and car audio.

    *sigh*

In 1988 or 1989 I blew up a gorgeous pair of AR-5's (the tweeters) with a test disc and a **** pair of ears. The next day I bought a pair of RTA 11t's brand new in the boxes for $290. I liked them enough to get another brand new pair a couple days later for $272. I held onto them for a few years and in 1991 the sale of those helped to finance the purchase of my Carver Amazing's. In 1999 when we added a big family room to the house, I found two used pair of RTA 11t's (one pair "TL" actually) and stuck them in there. I sold those a year or so later when I found the AR-9's. No sub, or surrounds required.

Over the years I've had a lot of Polk pass through here for sale. Notably the RTA12c, 7C, Monitor 4 and 5, RT-5. There are others but I can't remember them. I don't have any Polks anymore.

Circa '88, I landed my first Polks... a pristine pair of used SRS's. They're still here and will be after I've checked out... the wife likes them, too.

Started with some R40s which I used as bookshelves, ON MY DESK, of all places. It was hooked up to a crappy RCA carosel cdp and a lame Kenwood stereo receiver. That was my 1st year of pharmacy school in 2001.

Then I tried to get some Monitors, but no luck on ebay and other attempts.

Finally got some SDA SRS 2s, only to be replaced 7 months later by Carver Amazings.

No, but they are pulling garage duty right now. I greatly prefer the new Carvers to the SRSs.

OK in around 1983 I bought my first decent stereo,it was an nad receiver, and i wish i could remember the model number,it was their cheapest unit at the time...$300 it was only like 23 watts rms...if anybody can give me a model number,i would appretiate it,maybe a 63something...anywho,a dual turntable with a signet cartridge, and a set of sears lxi speakers, they had the same makeup as vega d9's...BIG! It rocked, anyway in 1985 or 86 my speakers were stolen, all i could afford were some monitor 5jrs...hello!Since then ive always owned a set of polks...i had others at the same time, but youll always find some polks in the househow about you?

    Sounds like a NAD 7020 or 7020e or i.

My first set of Polks was a pair of SDA-CRS. Sounded great with the NAD (still have the NAD)

Got a pair of SDA-CRS that fell off the inventory list at MIT. Shhhh. I think they are window planters now, but they sounded like nothing else at the time. It was influential to my tastes now. Had some Monitors, some RTi's, and now LSi's. It's apples and oranges, but the LSi's win over the CRS as my favorite polk owned/pilfered.

I came to Polk the round-about way. Started in audio in the early 80's with a pair of Infinitys, then learned about seperates and tubes and marched thru Kimber Phantoms, Quad ESL-63's, Spica TC's with the sub, then the Fried Valhalla system. I had heard the 15tl's back in the '80s when a buddy of mine who worked at the store that sold them asked me to bring my moscode 300/conrad johnson pv-5/thorens turntable in to audition them. We were both very impressed.

Then, about 5 years ago, I picked up a pair of 15tl's in Dallas because of that memory. I listened to them for a while, planning on putting them with my brother and letting him make payments. Turned out I liked them so much they became my primary speakers! I listened to them until I got my 36" Sony and started having problems with the "Great Purple Haze". Seeking sheilded speakers, I lived with a pair of Infinity Intermezzo 1.2s for a few months but eventually dumped them for a pair of LSi15s. Audio Nirvana!

My first set of Polks are my SDA 1Cs that I purchased in 1990. I am still using them as the mains in my home theater, just like I did in '90. I was thinking of selling them recently but have since decided I couldn't part with them. I guess my next step will be to start to upgrade the components in them. I didn't realize this was something that needed to be done to these guys until I joined this forum a few weeks ago.

My second Polk purchase was a CS200 center channel that I purchased in 1995. Still using that in my HT as well.

Next up will be some new Polks for the rears to replace the Bose AM5s that I have now, and possibly a new center speaker also.

Late eighties I think, pair of RM3000's.

Still running them as mains, they've never sounded better now that I have a solid receiver and some room to get them spaced properly.

I may go with some RTi6's soon to get more body out of the front channels but the RM's will stay at least as surrounds.

My first pair was a set of Monitor 10B's circa late 1987. Grabbed a pair of SDA1B's in mid 1999 and gave my older brother my 10B's. I sold off my 1B's when I snagged my SDA SRS 2.3's from a Polk member in 2001.
