Genetics? I was a 160 pound weakling when I started out. Had a 38" chest and a 180 pound bench. Ive worked my balls off the last 15 years the old fashioned way; powerlifting, 3-4 workouts a week and have never had a layoff (obviously it helps if you dont have a life!).

For the first 10 years my workouts were squats, bench, deadlifts, bent over rows, barbell curls and basically anything that involved a barbell. Very little to no machines or dumbells at all. Every workout had only one goal, lift more than I did the last workout. While everybody else was doing dumbells and all the new fangled machines I was over there sweating blood on the squat rack, which was easy because there was never anybody using it. This "strength only" apporach is why I was able to pack on size 100% naturally!

By the way, it aint squatin' if youre using a machine! :p:D

have you checked out powertecfitness.com? my workstation is all about heavy weights. no pulleys or anything. all olympic plates. sure, there is guided motion, but it's all done with pillow block bearings. i am nowhere big as you, but i try. i've only peaked at 5'11" @ 200lbs. again, i am lazy. and yes, my squat station will jack anyone up!!! handles up to 1,000 lbs on bench and squat stations. no sissy cables and pulleys over here.

btw..here's me and my 7.1 setup. camera makes everything look smaller than it is.

Ive actually given up on heavy squatting for a while. I pulled off a 600 pound squat using nothing but a belt a few years ago and never could go any higher. About 6 months ago I just got tired of the heavy lifting altogether and now I use mostly machines. Squats are the only powerlifting exercise I still do but I really only do them to maintain. I do 3-5 sets of 8-10 reps @ 405 about every 10 days or so.

Ill probably get back into the heavy iron in a few months but right now I just need a break.

With all this talk about weight lifting, I'll just make a quick comment...or statement, rather. I've been working out for about 2 years or so now, but I've only been really committed (well, in comparison) for the last two months or so. If y'all saw a full body shot, I'm sure you couldn't guess I work out, but I can see improvements. So looking in the mirror has been motivating me to keep going. I just have two dumbells, loaded to 30 pounds. I just use those for curls, shoulders, squats, benching.

I mean...I'm 6'2" and weigh 170....just how much meat can I have on me, right? :D

Now I've got a question for y'all: Have either of you managed to complete the one-legged squat?

    :D

i need the creatine and glutamine. anyhow, nice amount of sets/reps. on the right track for cutting. i've heard of an eca stack that works. ephedra, caffeine and asprin. run a search. get ephedra while it's on the grey market.

.....and btw, i like violence. just not the type the likes of bar brawls 'n shi*, or men hitting women. but watching ultimate fighting championship is the best!

i need the creatine and glutamine. anyhow, nice amount of sets/reps. on the right track for cutting. i've heard of an eca stack that works. ephedra, caffeine and asprin. run a search. get ephedra while it's on the grey market.

.....and btw, i like violence. just not the type the likes of bar brawls 'n shi*, or men hitting women. but watching ultimate fighting championship is the best!
Yep. I love a good brawl every once in a while. :D I catch the UFC matches on Spike TV sometimes. Pretty cool.

My workout consists of total body, 3 times a week, abs M-F, no weekend working out at all. My bench can jump up pretty fast. When I started I could barely do 225lbs. In less than a year, I added over 100lbs. to my bench.

btw, That is a nice work station you got there. Probably cost you a grip. I only have free weights, and will add a squat rack next year some time.
