Looks good Justin, real good.
Any chance we could get a 'system showcase' link in the toolbar, or in the quick links dropdown?
Not being nit-picky, but the 'new posts' and 'mark forums read' could use a 'buffer' (system showcase) between them, one slip of the mouse, and you're off searching for new posts forum by forum.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
-justin- wrote:Images are limited to .5 MB each, which is way big enough (too big in my opinion, but didn't want to exclude those who didn't know how to resize images) for any normal picture. The thumbnails are created at the time of upload, but your picture size will remain the same.

Justin,
I agree .5 MB is very large so I will keep my 640x480 or 800x600 so this should be under 150k tops. It will give me some breathing room as the old 100k limit was too limiting for me.
Thank You.

Actually it has more to do with the way you save the images. You can have a very large image, but optimized for web (i.e. 72 or 75 dpi, instead of 300 dpi). Also using a compression for JPEGs like 70%, which will greatly reduce file size without really lowering the image quality on the screen.
Russ, there is a link to "New Posts" right on the top bar, you should never have to pick it from the tools dropdown. I'll look into it though.

justin, I've helped here and there on many of forums the past few years. Just realize that you can't win them all, but the less change from the last version, the better. Most people hate change, even if it is for the better. You keep doing what you gotta do and make us deal with it. Seriously, the people who are here for the community will be here no matter what. The rest... well, they usually come and go anyhow.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

lol- oh was it?
then nevermind. I LOVE the new forum. -
First off Im all for progress so I have no problem with the change. Itll take some getting used to but once we're acustomed to it we'll be cruising around on instinct just like before. I also like the thumbnails for images. It makes the pages load faster and doesnt stretch the screen out for mile when they arent resized. If you wanna look at it, click it. Bravo!
Love the quick reply feature too.
Also like the unread threads or threads with a new post being in bold.
Overall, aside from having to re-learn everything, I think this will be a great update.
My only 2 critiques would be the extra wide margins (has anybody mentioned that yet ). Like Cody mentioned, the old car audio side was black and I personally loved the way it looked. It was easier to read and easy on the eyes. I also like the idea Justin mentioned of having the posts stretch across the screen.
And one tiny one, it was nice having links to the car and home websites. Maybe put those in the "quick links".polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Justin,
Great work so far, keep it up buddy.
BTW just a thought can you add (if possible) browser forward button that could go thru any thumbnails pictures then back to the tread? That would be so cool ..

Ewww...... i really do not like the darker red and blue banners. At first i thought something was wrong with my monitor!
And hey wait a minute where did the colorful buttons go. These new tribal looking symbols to denote new posts a hot thread etc are just plain fugly. I liked the cartoon looking icons that were put up this weekend.
And for some reason the yellow online box as oposed to the green button that lights up just really rubs me the wrong way.
Now i may be nitpicking tiny little things but i liked the new look of the site the way it was this weekend. I did not mind at all the old look but the new one i though gave it a little more of a friendly feel to it. I really like how the car forum is no longer a completley different color. But cant stand the new buttons and colors. everything does not seem to go together anymore. You have the cartoonish smileyfaces with the cartoonish aim, yahoo, msn messenger icons but then these contemporary buttons and colors everywhere
End rant -
Uh, Justin something just changed. I actually like the grey/blue and maroon colors much better. The post, reply, quote buttons are better than before but maybe a bit too small??? Dammit, stop complaining!!

I'm sure Justin's just playing around with stuff, I wouldn't complain until he's done.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

HA! Unbelievable!

Man, you people are sure quick to gripe about every little thing... -

I will say, though, that I agree with the comments about the left and right margins, it'll be cool if you can work up a style where those are pushed out to 95% or so... -
I just thought of the movie "Wayne's World" when Garth is sitting at a workbench, and says "We fear change...." and then starts bashing this mechanical hand with a hammer. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Please do NOT bring back those monster icons... they were a waste of space beyond belief.
Keep it like it is, PLEASE...just make it wider!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

I thought I had squashed this issue in the past thread, but just to be clear - YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SELECT FULL SCREEN.
Hope that helps!

Is it my computer? Or does the view counter seem a little sluggish??

Keep up the good work. I would just reduce those outside margins that waste desktop space.
-
I actually like the new color scheme too. I AM being quiet about the border thing until -justin- gets our option to widen the screen (just wearin' my shades til then  )."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

o well, then..... i guess i should read all the pretty text that comes up on the screen instead of just guessing what it says...
I guess i could actually learn to like the new buttons and colors if we changed the smiley icons and the aim, yahoo, msn messenegr icons to match them better. Like i said earlier the new colors and buttons are more simple and contemproary where as the other icons are more cartoonish. I guess now that i think about it i like them both i just think that everyting needs to be one or the other. Either all cartoonish or all simple and contemporary.
I vote simple and contemporary -

has anyone else noticed a problem with the "go to first unread post" button. It never seems to work for me.
-
It looks like that IS a problem, but only on a thread page. Everywhere else that you can click that button seems to work fine. I'll investigate.
