    Sounds good to me...

Also might think to line the internal part of the box with this -

    http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=260-520

Maybe put it directly behind the driver, and a few small squares on the side of the enclosure and maybe the top and bottom (5"x5" squares)

Just to help cancel out the back wave and dampen the enclosure a lil more...

Also might want to consider this if that isnt an option (or both) - http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=268-250

Damping the enclosure, somehow will help dampen resonances and improve the sound of the sub overall

    That spray looks about perfect!

I dont have any interior volume to spare.

Would they have the same effect as adding polyfill? In other words would they slow down the wave and make the box act like its bigger?

The foam pads would act *similar* to polyfill... the spray should not, as it shouldnt take away anything from the box...

The pads, just putting a piece on the back, and 5x5" squares on sides, top and bottom wouldnt change the volume that much...

You could also add .5x.5 braces (width/height of your cabinet) in the cabinet, as that would only take up like a cubic inch and wouldnt effect your volume AT ALL, pretty much... You could add 2 or so braces 12" long, .5 wide, .5 thick running horizontally and vertically without no real change, nothing you would notice or could calculate with a calculator and compensate for....

The spray would do fine, PE also sells thinner foam pads, like .25", it isnt as designed for enclosures as the .5" foam pad I showed you, is more for doors...

Two braces, 12" long, .5"x.5" is like .01 cu ft

If you are only charging 10 an hour and cost of tools something is wrong man. If it's a hobby that's fine... but if you want to make something out of it you can and will have to charge more. The guy I bought it from makes a living doing this so it's obvious he has to charge more... just like any other company.

so can you build me a rear horn enclosure?

What are the advantages to adding vibe damping to the inside of an enclosure.

Ive heard its supposed to give you more db's but Ive heard a lot of people say its such a minute amount its not worth it.

    Does it affect SQ any?

Can I? sure... will I? no

I am just 16, and I don't mind hooking forum members up....

I charge 10 to members because obviously I am still a student...

but in the next year or so as I pack more experience under the belt...I will raise the price per hour...

I can build as good, if not better of a box than anyone else right now...

Not sure what you mean by adding vibe damping...

Adding damping to an enclosure should help with the overall accuracy, as it aids in stopping enclosure resonance and flexing, so the enclosure isnt creating as much of a sound on its own... so if you are shooting for SQ comps, you might want to consider bracing and damping, even if it means sacrificing enclosure volume...

Okay why not. Now you know I'm just giving you a hard time.

But being 16 it's great you want to offer your services... it'll just be hard for people to justify it.... which sucks. but when it comes down to it as you said, experience does make you more respected.

Is 210 for a 68 pound box shipped a bad price? depends on who you ask... for me it's not simply because it's the best service I've received for the second to lowest price. The lowest price would be the rear horn enclosure (duplicate snail shell) I inquired about which was 200 shipped but the young man took nearly 5 days to respond to my e-mail...
    no offense or anything sid...

Depends on what type of wood he used, seems fine...

But he did make a hefty profit, to the larger degree of the word... (double, if not more what it costs to make and ship)

68 pounds isnt that bad to ship, I sent a box similar of that to TX a while back and only cost me 25-30 bucks..., was the size of your sub too, was big enough to hold a toilet...

As for a rear-horn, I could make it, but I am working on my own lil projects at the moment...

it's 3/4ths MDF like everyone uses. i didn't want it doubled up or anything. just braced for motor support and such.

In a perfect world I would have bought a snail shell but then I heard the horror stories... ahhh how i love the internet.

go over to powered4sound.com and read up

it's similar to a rear horn enclosure... i few guys build duplicates and i highly considered it but i figured it's safest to go with a traditional ported enclosure.

$33,000 each isn't quite a house, but once you consider that each speaker needs 3x100 and 1x500 (minimum!), that's a freakin lot of amplification for HT...

yeah, i could see a stereo setup reaching over 100k...

Eh there are much more expensive speakers out there...

The following speakers are 90,000 a pair...

    x1_hero.jpg
    Wilson Audio X1

    sent-grand.jpg
    Avalon Sentinel

    signature.jpg
    JM Lab Grande Utopia

    This particular speaker is 125,000
    Hero.jpg
    The Wilson Audio Alexandria X2

This is not even close to how many high dollar speakers are out there, there are even some ABOVE 125,000 a pair

I have heard some Focal home speakers before. I cant remember the model but they were in the $10-20,000 price range and they were pretty much breathtaking.

It was a cool store. They dealt high end car and home audio. You could go in there and listen to Focal Utopia car speakers and Lunar amps then walk into the next room and audition some Sunfire receivers and Focal Grande Utopia speakers.

I've heard the Wilson Audio X1... the room it was in, cost 500,000 on its own, the equipment costs just the same...

Some of the best sound yall hear...that is reproduced...

Worth the cost? Well, thats up to the person with the money (or might we say, excess money?)

Ive thought about this before. If I won the lottery how over the top would I go? Honestly I doubt Id spend as much as I could. A set of LSi9's all around, a Sony ES receiver and Pioneer Elite plasma tv and Id be as happy as I could be.

Same for car audio. Id have the new Signature speakers, a W7 and Xtant amp and be done.
