Niiiice.........I will be checking the system showcase periodically for your updates. You are getting some excellent advice from the real audiophiles on this forum. Are you going back into the walls like you did on your first system run?

If you're putting your rear seats against the wall, save the money on the rear surrounds because you'll totally miss them with the sound overshooting you completely.......

What config did you go with on the lighting?

Here is another question for you forum members. My house is a split-foyer and in the new H/T room the first 3' is cinderblock, the remaining 5' is framed. My question today is, if you were me, would you paint basement sealent on the cinderblock, like DryLock. The portion on the basment were the windows are, are below grade, the remaining portion of the walls are also below grade just not as much, slopes off to the back of the house. Not really familiar with the sealing of basements but I know they did not seal the other portion. The whole reason I'm asking this question is when I removed the rolled insulation the builder installed, I noticed a couple of cinderblock where moisture had come threw. Thanks in advance.

i would think of putting the audio rack at the back of the room incase you decide to get a projector. it would greatley increase your largest screen by alot. also i olny have seating for 5 and sometimes it sucks

Well, last night I put on the first coat of DryLock and let me tell you one thing, what a pain in the a$$ that was. For those of you that have never used this product, imagine spreading toothpaste with a 4" brush over cinderblocks. Five hours, a six pack of Coors and one hell of a headache later, I finally finished the FIRST coat, DAMNIT. Hopefully the second coat will go alot faster due to the fact that I get to use a masonry roller on the second coat. All I have to say, I better not find another damp cinderblock.:D

Okay, so I have another question for you guys. From looking at my lighting plan, would you have the recessed (green) lights on two seperate dimmers. Meaning, say the three at the front on a dimmer and the remaining on another dimmer. If the framing gets done Saturday, my cousin, which is an electrician, will be here Sunday to wire this room. Thanks for your inputs.

Seperate rows on dimmers really makes sense if it isn't much trouble. Sometimes I like to have light above seating up a little while eating, but low over my screen to improve contrast. If your component rack is in a wall in your theater, you may want to consider a seperate light to help with controls on occasion. This avoids having to light the entire room to change settings.

Word of caution on dimmers. BUZZ!!! They can be noisy if too close to components or wiring runs. Cheap dimmers may cause issues with your audio.

Well members, the framing is DONE. Will be posting pics after I remove some of the scraps and stuff. It's 6:30 a.m. so everyone is still asleep in this house. Anyways, since the framing is done, my cousin which is an electrician said he will be here Monday around noon to do the rough-in so I can get my first inspection out of the way. So far, things seem to be going smoothly. Well post pics later.

    Looks like fun!
What kind of insulation are you using? I used R14 sound proofing insulation and it works great.
My 2 year olds room is directly above my media room and I can watch movies and listen to music at any level I want without disturbing her. The only thing you can hear in her room is a slight thump from the sub.
    Have fun building the room!

As you can see, the step is a solid oak step which will be stained the same color as the media cabinet and the audio cabinet.

Well forum members, my first set of inspections (framing and electrical) went flawlessly. The inspector said he was looking forward to doing the final inspection to see how it turned out. To be honest with you, I think he just could not beleive I was building an actual H/T room. Anyway, I started insulating the walls last night so I thought I'd shows you guys some more construction pics. I will be insulating the ceiling today then moving onto drywall later. Kepp checking back for updates.
