Streaming TV service.

Hello everyone,
Happy Holidays. What streaming service do you use? Today Youtube TV cut all Disney channels including ESPN and local ABC. My wife isn't happy at all as she watches ABC all the time. So I gotta figure out a new streaming service. Any suggestions?

We have directv stream (formerly ATT TV). It is not overly expensive and works well.
Little setup tip if you get that, go in and disable the Bluetooth unless you really want to use that. Ours connected automatically to the Audioengine B1 on the stereo and it took forever to figure out why we were getting no sound from the kitchen TV.

ESPN+ will get you most of the sports, but not sure about abc. I would probably just get a month of the cheapest sling at the promo price of $10 bucks to get abc until this gets rectified.

Or on the flip side the more of us that drop YouTubetv even for just a month will pressure them to negotiate! I will say that this is a bad month to lose ESPN for both sides. Even the bowls that only draw a million views are big revenue makers for ESPN…

Which is honorable but doesn't bring ABC back. Who ever would have thought that you could lose a Local Channel? I find it madness. It kinda pisses me off and I'm not even a big fan of that channel.

it's the only Streaming TV service I have used. It had all the channels we watch so it was a no brainer. And we both kinda like the interface.

The others are garbage by comparison. I have tried most all of them a couple times.

We use SlingTV for streaming. ESPN is a big reason
Depending on where you live they also provide local channels.
Doesn't cost you anything to investigate.

I just signed up for a free trial of Hulu Live. I’ve tried Fubo in the past and liked it. We’ll see how it plays out, but I’ll be done with YouTube TV if I can’t get ABC and ESPN. Too bad because I’ve had if a couple of years now and like it.

Can't you hook up an antenna for local?
I'm getting ready to do that here.

I feel like we are going in circles with this. Cable companies over charger for their services , rent you equipment and charge you all these extra fees on top. So streaming services come around and offer very attractive pricing. Then they raise the price and remove channels. Youtube TV was $49.99 the I joined just a few years or so ago. Then the price went up to $65.00 and now they lost all the Disney channels offering you less and then just going back to the $49.99 price as it was before.

What is the incentive of staying with YouTube TV? I'll be honest , streaming services are not as good as any cable system I have ever had including DSS. You can't input a channel number and go to that channel. They are not even channel based, they are guide and Channel name based ( for a lack of a better term ).

Anyone think just going back to a cable service is just better? Anyone decide that streaming services are just not work the pennies saved? And now that they just keep going up , what's the incentive ?

I’ve stuck with cable by FIOS. Almost zero downtime. Pay for the premium movie channels and get all their online content. I also have Amazon Prime but that’s mainly for shipping. And Vudu for digital content I already own.

Every now and then Verizon gets in a dispute with one of the local channels over carriage fees but they usually resolve those quickly.

Mediacom dropped the local ABC channel about a year and a half ago, we hooked up an Antenna on the bedroom tv for watching ABC, Mediacom should pay what ABC is demanding they say it's because of the increase they demanded, as far as I'm concerned Mediacom is overpriced anyways.

A lot of content is expensive. Local channels do
Over the air free, but charge a premium to providers.
And the cost keeps going up.
I'm about to go with a stream with no local. No sports.
And it's pretty cheap. I don't see any way to save big
    without cutting out some channels.
True pick your channels isn't really out there yet.

An alternative is to have a minimalist approach and use an antenna for free TV and when nothing is on read a book or listen to music or both.

My in-laws just cut the cord. They decided to buy a 65” Samsung and signed up for a couple streaming services (Netflix and Disney plus). I set up a digital antenna for them. They get over 100 over the air channels and with the new tv, Samsung offers a free proprietary streaming service with over 250 television, movie and music channels. It was good enough to get me thinking to do the same!!!

I think I made the same arguement in another thread. Youtubetv isn't just 65 bucks, if you want the 4k content, it costs ya 20 bucks more. Netflix charges a little more for theirs too but only a few bucks. Others like Sling are comparable but they never actually tell you how many HD channels you'll get. Video quality too is slightly different between services.

The cost you save is not having to pay the rental gear from the cable company and all the add on taxes like a utility bill. However the aggravation factor of surfing, disappearing channels, buffering at times, ease of use for old folks, can all add up to....is it worth it.

I'm in the process of figuring that out myself. I'm fairly confident once enough people leave the landline based cable for streaming, the taxes will follow because they will never do with less taxes. Then we will be right back where we started.

Out of curiosity I plugged a $15 indoor antenna to one of my TVs last night and scanned for digital channels. Around 60 showed up. That's because the networks have a main channel and then two or three digital sub channels with different programming on them. I will say broadcast HDTV for local network channels still blows away anything on cable or streaming services for picture quality.
