Cousins? I'm thinking they're more like twin brothers . They look the same to me except for the feet on the Marantz look slightly larger.
If one does choose to do the underside lighting some sort of an opaque barrier around the bottom is a must. Mine is a home made frame for the old Pioneer pl41 acrylic cover that just happens to fit the Emotion perfectly.
The Marantz version (which, apparently, is still on the market) has a few tweaks compared to its forebear. The feet and the thicker platter are the most salient. Otherwise, yes, virtually identical.
My kids liked the looks of mine. I was never terribly impressed with it as a player of records, so it's boxed up, upstairs, with some stuff sitting on top of it.

I ended up with this to try. It's good so far. Small, light-weight, very flexible, low energy use, adjustable brightness and color temp. $14. I'll revisit DK's post on gels and pick up a pack of gel sheets to fashion some colors. I like blue, red, and green.

It’s definitely got the “cool” looking factor. I used a strip of blue led’s.
Is this an RPM-5? I’ve thought about doing the same to my 10. What LED’s did you use?2-channelBelles 22A Pre, Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 2, Marantz SA8005, Pro-Ject RPM-10 Turntable, Pro-Ject Phono Box DS3B, Polk Audio Legend L800's, AudioQuest Cable throughout. -
That amount of brightness adjustability looks great. My amazon purchase gooseneck is supposed to have touch-sensitive dimming and that feature broke within a month of opening. So hard buttons seem a better bet for that.

Interesting on the reliability, but not surprising. I do wonder how long this thing will last. They are those "blister" type buttons. We'll see. Stuff like this is a crapshoot on Amazon. I remember the old days on Amazon, just 10 years ago even, when there were more regular brands. Of course, merchandise we pretty much just imagined up wasn't as likely to exist back then as it is now, either.
I will say that even at its dimmest, it's still brighter than I'd like, but it's not bad. Nice, soft atmosphere, especially with the warmest yellow light selected.
When I come up with a way to mount gels, that'll drop the output a bit. They don't put off any heat and the diffusing cap screws off, so this could be as simple as removing the cap, creating a trace for the gel, inserting, replacing the diffusing disc and, viola (intentional), colored light. Something magnetic would be nice, too, for faster swaps, but the housing is aluminum, so that won't work. I was loosely thinking maybe velcro for external mount. The gel inside the cap would be cleanest and best prevent light bleed, though. A 3D printed friction fit would be nice, too, maybe with a gel slot, but I don't have a printer.I disabled signatures. -
Nice lamp. I like an angled oval shade. This was supposed to be my LED grill light....

Yeah i though that warm yellow looked good on the photo. Sounds like you have a pretty cool plan there. Look forward to hearing how the gels and the interchangeable scenario work out.

Upon Rich's success with these lights, I bought one on Amazon years ago. I have it mounted to a shelf hovering over my ultrasonic cleaning tank. Great little "grill light".

Ha! I forgot to mention that I do have one over on the side with my VPI that I bought several months later. I just don't have a picture of it.Carl -

Tell that to my SACD player! -
I had been fighting good lighting on my turntables for a while. I finally decided to install these. They are integrated into the light circuit with none of my audio equipment on that circuit. My audio equipment has dedicated circuits. The lights are on a separate remote controlled dimmer than the 4 can lights. Which are also remote controlled. Its nice that I can control all lights from my listening chair. They can really give light to the turntables but I can turn the cans down or off and the room is very calming. It was a really nice upgrade for the room.

This looks amazing. Love the ceiling art too

When I turn off all of the lights, even the displays on the rig are turned off. Not only for better sound quality but for the loss of light.

Tom agrees with you! And I owe you a shout out Tom- last weekend I went super low light on your advice and really loved it. No problem with my Clearaudio Bluemotion just stick a submersible puck or a string of these Phillips led string lights up under the platter and look at the pretty lights. The Wife got me the puck shopping at Ross the other day she knows I like my lights when spinning some Vinyl. With the puck there is a remote with different colors, jump and Fade patterns when your listening to some of those early Floyd Albums. Cant do that with my Technics Tables.

Yes I've found that led's and their cheap dc power supplies are very noisy and need to be kept off the dedicated lines feeding the gear.
