So recently I picked up a beautiful pair of A7’s and a CSi-A4 for a buddy:
https://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/194109/this-is-nuts
Now he wants a new AVR. I’ve been looking at this one from Denon:
https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/av-receivers/avr-x1600h
Looks like it’d be around 70wpc in stereo... The system isn’t in a dedicated theater space or anything, just a living room, not a critical or high end rig…. Any thoughts about this pairing? Are there better, modern options out there? He doesn’t want to spend a ton, wants “lots of HDMI”. Surround/Atmos isn’t important to him. He’ll only run it as 3.1.
Any opinions or suggestions are appreciated!
TIA

I think it will work just fine. Run them small 80hz and rely on the subwoofer for the heavy lifting and I think you'll have a Nice affordable system.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
Check rear panel for LCR pre-outs. “No pre-outs” is a deal breaker.
My Denon AVR rated @ 100 in stereo struggles to drive my more sensitive Kefs. I wouldn’t expect they’ll drive those more power hungry A7s any better WITH a sub handling the bottom.
Approximate sq footage?
Make and model sub?

Typically with Denon, not until the AVR-X3X00H level. So they would be looking at a AVR-X3600H or X3700H model.

This setup will be serious nails on a chalk board toothpick in your ears type of thing. Definitely need a warmer and more powerful AVR…I would encourage him to look at used NAD or Marantz or Cambridge. Or at the very least a denon with preouts to add a warmer amp down the road…

Ten four. I was a little concerned about the paring. I will keep shopping for him. Thanks!Current Collection: Monitor 4a (Peerless), Monitor 5B (Peerless), Modified Monitor 7b (Peerless), RTA15TL (SL3000), SDA CRS+ (194’s), SDA SRS 2.3TL, R100's, R200’s, R300 🤩 -
Picked this up for my friend today. $200. Should do the trick. Has pre outs if he wants to go bigger…. Marantz SR-5006 in mint condition. 🤘🏻

That’ll do it! Nice find! As long as atmos, 4K, or more than 7.1 isn't a need, then this will be just fine.
