Aesthetics is one thing. I prefer the black and billet look. But if you're worried about oxidation, don't. I built these 6061 billet baffle plates a few years ago and they're untreated and unwaxed/polished even....

Is there an "official" TL mod/addition to the original ported 5Jr x-over? Don't want to go rogue lol.

    Not that I'm aware of.

That'd definitely fix any baffle flex.

How thick is that 6061 T6(?) aluminium baffle? What is the Young's Modulus? Just kidding with the 2nd question ;)

    0.625 inch @ 40,000 psi.

What do you think the particle board modulus is?😂

If I were to go that route, I would mount the MW and tweeter on one of the sides and have the passive pointed to either side. Slim, Tall 7's.

    ***Nerd Alert***Nerd Alert***

    MOE (Modulus of Elasticity)

    6061 T6 68.9 GPa = 9.99 x 10^6 psi
    18mm Particle Board = 2.048 GPa = 2.97 x 10^5 psi
    18mm MDF = 3.326 GPa = 4.82 x 10^5 psi
    16mm Particle Board = 3.424 GPa = 4.97 x 10^5
    16mm MDF = 3.010 GPa = 4.37 x 10^5

This is from a Chinese study (of course) that I found the other day. Pretty weird the difference in MOE for MDF vs Particle Board for 18mm (approx 3/4") thickness.

The 18mm PB panels they tested were lower density than the 16mm and than the MDF, by far. I wonder if the same holds true everywhere.......

For Made in USA Aurauco, standard PB (Duraflake) vs standard MDF:(Trupan)

    MOE (Modulus of Elasticity):

    PB: 350,000 psi = 2.41 GPa
    MDF: 420,000 psi = 2.90 GPa

So it kind of bears out the Chinese paper, as far as the MDF being quite a bit stiffer.

I’m not sure what they use to cut these but they did end up a hair bigger than the template I set him, with a print as well. since it is very thin and very flimsy I’m sure that was part of the issue, not a big deal, and I didn’t want to bother him with it.

So I am sandwiching them (six at a time) between two templates, and taking a small file to them, and finishing them off with emory cloth. It’s really not that bad, takes a few minutes is all, much better fit.

As long as the perimeter of the silk diaphragm interfaces with them and the throat ID of the plate snugly, you're golden.

This one was built for the SL3000/2000 tweeters so the four holes don’t line up, my new ones for the RDO’s is at the platers, but it gives you the idea..

I don't want you to have any surprises with your new gaskets/insulators, but you may end up having to trim them around the RDO magnet top plate bosses.

Good deal. Just wanted you to be aware that the factory RDO bosses are designed a few thousands shorter than their diaphragms to ensure compression once magnet screws are tightened down, yet not overtorquing diaphragm plastic.

By putting the same thickness across all of the surface you should be getting the same compression with or without it would you not? it is one of the reasons I wanted to cover the surface, yet have something better than electrical tape. Overtorquing? we are going from a plastic bezel to an aluminum billet bezel with four cross screws, well mine will be stainless hex, but that is not relevant. These are tweeters, not heads on a motor...
