Funny things your wife has said...about audio

Last night my wife was using earbuds to listen to something on her phone, and she said, "Turn up your music as loud as you want...I'm putting my earbuds in."

I get that one occasionally. Mrs. H simply cannot grok why I might have, say, a half-dozen copies (sometimes more, counting different media) of the same rekkid.

E.g., I literally do not know how many copies of Who's Next there are here. I do know that my early 1970s copy on eight-track broke... but i think I still have the tape from it, wound onto a spare 5" tape reel. That's not... odd, is it?

On topic, Here is a transcript of an actual conversation that took place here yesterday. Mrs. H would like to see me cleave to a steady state model of hifi acquisition/collection. To wit, if a "new" component comes in, an old one goes out.
Dr. H: In full disclosure, I just PayPal'd [a sum of money] to [one of the local gurus] for a power transformer for a phono preamp I'm going to be building.

Mrs H: O....kay... so, what will you get rid when you get it?

Dr. H: You'd like me to get rid of a transformer? I can do that!

I do love her very much -- she puts up with a lot. She's a saint. :)

While listening to Yes's, Long Distance Runaround, on vinyl.

    Wife: Did that just skip?
    Me: No...it's syncopation.

My wife has never really said anything strange, but she has done something odd.

When we drove to Indianapolis to pick up the first pair of Utopias, it was her idea to sleep in a Walmart parking lot from 230am to 7am.

It was freezing, I told her it was crazy, but I went along with it because happy wife happy life

We were at a friends house and she says "look how small those speakers are",
trying to convince me we don't need the big speakers we have. I couldn't say in front of my friend "ya, but they sound like crap!"

Our first wedding anniversary (24 years ago) we had a rental car for some reason and decided to go up the coast for a 3 day trip. We brought sleeping bags and just folded the back seat down and slept with our feet in the trunk. After not sleeping because it was uncomfortable and freezing we got motel rooms the next 2 nights.

Shoot, I've slept in my car on audio related trips plenty of times in the cold. I just let the car idle for 6 hours, it didn't seem to mind.

Back in the day after I first got my Dodd MLP pre-amplifier, I was cooking one day and grease was all over my hands (rig at that time was in the LR). I asked her if she would be so kind as to turn it up a bit. She could not find the remote, so I told her she could turn it up on the pre-amplifier.

Well, she isn't stereo component savvy so she asked me which component had the volume knob on it. I stated that it was the one that had the wood faceplate and the volume knob was on the right. So she looks on the rack, points to the Dodd and asks...

    "Do you mean this DODO?"

My wife likes the Home Theater side and Headphone side of the hobby more than the 2 channel side but usually let's me enjoy my hobby, I get the occasional eye roll when a package shows up. The biggest mistake I make is if we are in a store and she says I want this and my response is like is that really necessary that's when she goes off in a semi rant and kindly reminds me of all the gear we have and says is all that necessary.
