I gotta call b.s. on the supposed under staffing.
ITALY ON A NORMAL DAY....is understaffed. Welcome to Gov. Run H.C.

Joey, your hospital has only 7 ICU beds ? That's just crazy. Even hospitals out in the suburbs here have 20 or 30. Some more than that.

During flu season, hospitals are short on beds to begin with. Throw in an unexpected contagious virus and you have an instant crisis.

    Those are the bigger hospitals.
Like Central Dupage or Delnor at your place.
    NIMC likely does not.

With the shortage of equipment Italy is facing, and doctors , one has to wonder...
Isn't this what the U.N. is for ?

Can we relocate doctors from other organizations like Red cross or Doctors without borders, etc.

And, this is not something new for Italy that 1500 docs leave the country every year. You think the best and brightest want to work for peanuts ?

But the WHO says they have the 2nd best health care.

I’m not so concerned about if I picked it up, I feel I’m pretty healthy, and would come out of it, my biggest concern is obviously Courtney... She has a doctor appointment today, and I don’t even want her to go. She had her biopsy last week, and they want to go over her tests..

The number of cases outside China have now doubled since last Friday, to more than 40,000.

Angela Merkel addressed the Bundestag today, and repeated during a press conference later, than the number of people infected in Germany could rise to 60 or 70% of the population. That’s approximately 55 to 60 million.

Stock market going down today. LOL. They can’t make up their minds. Just sell it all. Whoever is the next President will have quite a mess (economically and socially) to deal with.

Goldman Sachs Expects S&P 500 to drop to 2,450 by mid-year.

That would signal the end of the bull market. Goldman also expects a recovery to 3,200 by the end of 2020.

Yes...and does it hurt to ask ? Especially for those areas hardest hit like Italy.

Certainly doesn’t hurt to ask, but...
    • Italy’s budget for COVID-19 is currently 28 billion USD.
    • MSF (Doctors Without Borders) has an annual budget estimated at $1.6B
    • ICRC (Red Cross) has an annual budget of about $2B
Pulling volunteer doctors, leaving poor people to die in third world countries, to help people in the eighth wealthiest country in the world is hardly going to look good.

Italy is by far, not one of the wealthiest countries in the world. I'm saying....ask for their help and PAY them so as not to stretch their budgets. Maybe even make it profitable for them to lend a hand.

Part of dealing with these things is how fast you can nip it. You have to use every resource out there, or at least try to. Problem solving 101, thinking outside the box.

Italy has the 8th highest GDP in the world. Nominal GDP exceeds that of either Texas or New York. Only California is wealthier, as a state, than Italy.

Can the virus be cured by throwing money at it?

No, but the point is: Italy does not need help from humanitarian organizations.

Maybe. Science will cure/prevent/stop it, and science takes money.

So does equipment, like respirators, which seem to be in short supply in hard hit areas.

Makes sense, considering what Angela Merkel just said.

Since China advised all countries in January of the COVID-19 virus DNA, the US has tested 5000 people. The South Koreans are doing 10,000 a day..

Now in the US millions of test kits have said to been shipped yesterday and more today.

I don’t think it was them that made the statement. 😉
