I think I read that these do not require a common ground amplifier.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Yep seem to be a lot of little yellow things that over the years of Polk ownership I've ...umm .. disappeared them....

Ha, might as well price out replacements now. I can see toasted boards from driving those L800's with a 500 buck receiver. I sure hope Polk's material mentions a proper power source. Look what we go through with the LSI's and RTIA9's.HT SYSTEM-

Curious....by the look of those crossovers, if they are easily replaceable in home by the average joe, or do you need to ship them back. That could be costly should something go south.HT SYSTEM-

It will be interesting to hear what you can get for $6K. I would expect technology to improve over time while the cost decreases. For example, I would expect them to meet, or exceed, my $10K Aerial Acoustics 7T speakers. If so I might upgrade the HT/spare stereo system.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

If I do upgrade the fronts then the Aerials should go to the rear. However, that is super overkill for movies, and my PSB rears are fine. Let’s see what happens, and then talk.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Did you see the specs @F1nut posted?
Granted, the L800 is conspicuously absent, but, e.g., the little L100 bookshelf is rated for 85.5 dB SPL (presumably at 1 meter) for 2.83 VAC input -- which is 2 watts into its nominal 4 ohm impedance... then it says minimum recommended amplifier power is 30 watts.
Hmm....

Man these look nice, can't wait to get my ears on them and see how they compare to the old 1.2tls
-
Not sure if anyone said this yet. But DAMN with the grills on WOW those look gorgeous...
-
"Steady state recommended amplifier power" - I'm pretty sure I've never heard it referred that way before.
I suspect that's a nod to the reality of current-era power claims for many types of audio amplifying equipment
At any rate, I would think (only) 30 watts into a loudspeaker rated for (only) 82.5 dB SPL (per watt) sensitivity would be (will be) asking for trouble.
EDIT: heh, upon reflection -- yeah, that is a funny way to put it. I assume it means "recommended steady state amplifier power", but maybe they mean the recommendation fluctuates wildly among the staff, but most of the time it is 30 to 160 watts.
(as y'all can tell, I am totally fascinated by this new line - I really am)

The L800 info is missing because it has its own manual/spec sheet, which I don't have yet.Political Correctness'.........defined

That's OK -- although it will be interesting to see what the minimum recommendation for the L800 is. Actually, come to think of it, the recommended range will be interesting, too.

I think all these new loudspeakers'll need that kind of oompf, given their sensitivity.
I don't suppose that there's any hope that Polk'll publish impedance curves for any of them, is there?
Plan B -- I wonder if Stereophile will review one of them? JA will give 'em a good quantitative shakedown.
I mean, maybe audiosciencereview would test a pair, but Amir's brain would short out when he couldn't figure out how to measure SINAD.

I guess the 40 wpc NAD C 316BEE that I'm using isn't going to be able to drive these to insanely loud listening levels safely (which is ok because I rarely go past a 75 dB average when listening).Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro
