Yep! Hifonics was the first company to produce amps stable at and below 2 ohms. The original Warrior series was 2 ohm stable and that was part of what made them so special at the time. Infact, I think it was the first Brutus series of amps that was 1 ohm stable. They were also one of the first to start pushing D-class power.

I think it was Alpine that threw out the first 4 channel amp too.

Those were also the days when a D-class amp had dual power supplies and two channels, BOTH pushing 500 watts of power. IIRC too, the first D-class amps were not rated with an RMS and peak value. They were rated at a true wattage level and judging by the weight and build quality, they matched up to the numbers.

Not too many innovative things coming out anymore and the mass-production by some of the industry pioneers has all but killed off the boutique shops. The ones that ARE still around are selling "bling-bling dubs" and ricer accessories just to get by. The discounters on the internet pretty much killed it for everyone.

Oh, another thing! Remember when amplifiers weren't classed in catalogs as A, A/B, B or D class but rather by the design of the output circuit? Like Soundstream had some seriously stout amplifiers using a Darlington power circuit I think it was.

Man do I miss those days. It was exciting to read the industry rags and see what new stuff was coming out. Now it's just the same old crap re-hashed.

    I strongly agree.

I read the standard magazines pretty religiously but they are getting old. You open up the mag and check out the installs and its usually the same old crap. Manufactuer sponsored demo car with tons and tons and tons of fiberglass and nothing even remotely resembling the factory appearance. I think the worst was the Panasonic demo car in last months rag. Yup Panasonic. Thats worse than Sony!

I wish they would put in at least one install where the consumer WAS the installer and the inside of the car actually was pretty much stock (gasp!). Scott Buwalda and John Skeetoe were probably the last cars Ive seen in the rags that were "real world".
