huh... what are the odds... i actually googled a pic of the exact model...

old wives tale... the same thing that causes carpal tunnel will cause blindness... for more info, see the Church...

or a more direct method of blindness... eew... (think glue in the eye if you really need the help...)

I'm sure that'll clean him out better than it will the car....

(Reminds me of a time that I went to pick up a friend from his busted car in DE... his car was full, mine empty... so all he had was this heater hose... so I tried to siphon it and accidentally... well, let's say I gave up and I burped fumes for 200 miles...)

Lets see if we can add to this a bit. How about everyone's age, and how long you've been involved in car audio. Myself, 18 and got started a little over a year and a half ago...right before I got my license.

I'm 31, got into car audio at 15.

    Back in my day...

...We had to cut our dashboards because a lot of cars were still just fit for "knobbers".

...You had to carry your whole radio with you if you didn't want it ganked. Then they came out with the "pull-out", which was the whole radio with a handle on it. You kids got it easy with your detachable faces. :)

...Rockford Fosgate amps were really underrated. ie a "Punch 60", would put out around 150 watts. Their ads featured a woman with a rubber mallet that supposedly beat on the amps as part of quality control.

...Stillwater Kicker was a small company that made some of the most rock-solid competition subs ever, and you had to buy them at boutiques. Now,.....

...CD players skipped horribly! We had to make "suspension systems" out of springs and string, or find a way to wrap it up with foam.

...People put "Oakley Factory Pilot" stickers in their back windows and thought it was cool. (not related to audio, but fits the time frame)

    Regards,
    PolkThug

27, been doing car audio and well, cars in general since I was about 14. Started when a couple of friends from scouts who were old enough to drive got cars.

Like PolkThug, things were different once.

Kenwood had TruWattage amps which were the Holy Grail of amplifiers.

Hifonics was not real well known but highly respected in audio circles.

Sony actually made GOOD car audio gear

Sherwood wasn't just a name bought by a Taiwanese company to milk profits off of. They actually ranked up there with McIntosh audio.

    McIntosh still made car audio

    Marantz still made car audio

Hell, even Adcom still made car audio!

Alpine required that thier gear be professionally installed for any warranty to be honored.

MTX was king of the hill until the ittly bitty and pesky Stillwater Kicker company came along and dethroned the audio giant.

Polk Audio revolutionized car audio with affordable speakers that weren't just loud but clean and accurate too.

There was no such thing as a wiring harness/install kit. You needed a service manual and you had to know how to read a circuit disgram if you wanted to integrate your stereo into your car.

Car audio "boutiques" were staffed with knowledgable people who actually competed in this little known organization called IASCA not backwards hat wearin', pants drooping punk asses with more attitude than brains.

Circuit City actually had reputation as one of the BEST places to get your audio gear installed.

People thought you were nuts for putting a TV screen in your car.

Yep, different times. I'm sure Kim can relate, I know PolkThug can too. I can't think of too many else who can. Thinking back you realize how much you had to know and how much you have forgotten but most people who are "experts" nowadays will never need to know. Makes me feel old.

Im 32 and IVe been into CA off and on for 15 years. I got my first peak into car audio back in 1989 when a buddy of mine got a pair of MTX boxes with each box containing a 10" sub, 4" mid and a peizo tweeter. He sat them on his back seat and powered them with a Sherwood 240 (120x2). Sounded like **** but boy it was loud!

Things I remember from that era:

The Kenwood T-bird was the baddest demo car around.

The name Phoenix Gold was spoken with reverence.

No amplifiers had x-overs or bass boost.

Most amplifiers were not 2 ohm stable.

Most amps were 2 channel only. No mono and very few 4 channels.

Orion amps were the most powerful around although youd have to send them off after every show to have them rebuilt.

Nobody had CD players; cassettes all the way.

Kicker ONLY made subs. In fact, their demo car had PPI amps (cant remember what speakers).

My first CD player was a Pioneer 6 disc changer that had no radio and was totally passive. No power at all.

Circuit City had the best installers and it was very hard to get hired there.

    Coustic was well respected.

    MTX Terminators.

Linear Power amps were about the tallest hog at the trough amp wise.

    PPI Art series amps.
