Stylus Force Gauge - Suggestions?

Been looking for a Stylus Force Gauge.

Even though the Rega TT proclaims that my tonearm is pre-set, I wanna make sure. I've read some interesting threads on this forum, including @DarqueKnight rather comprehensive (per his usual) comparison comparison from a while back. For reference: https://forum.polkaudio.com/discussion/67124/a-review-of-four-digital-stylus-pressure-gauges

Unfortunately IIRC the 4 mentioned in his thread are not readily available anymore.

All suggestions and comments are welcome! Not considering price point at this time, just want to see what's out there.

No need to pay more than this https://www.amazon.com/Neoteck-Digital-Turntable-Backlight-Cartridge/dp/B01N9TRSPC/ref=sr_1_7_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1543373431&sr=8-7-spons&keywords=digital+vertical+tracker+force+scale+turntable&psc=1 This is the first one I found after a quick search. I have a very similar one...just a different color.

Look around, and you will see this same scale sold for many times the price at various 'high-end' websites. The only difference is a certain brand name being stenciled onto it. The design is exactly the same, as anyone can see. These units work quite nicely, and are very accurate. I recommend getting one with the 5g calibration weight as included in the link provided.

The digital ones, most anyways are made in China. I wouldn't pay to much for a digital one. I prefer my Clearaudio manual one it's just as accurate and dont let you down when your digital one's batteries are dead when you go to use it.

You are absolutely correct on this! I have the same one and that's about all you'll need. Just calibrate it each time you use it to make sure its working properly.

Nothing wrong with the ancient & venerable Shure SFG-2.
An analog balance for analog media :)

    bgwt8loiuvt2.png

Otherwise any "dope scale" (as I like to call them) is fine, IMO* You do want one (again, IMO) that's not too "tall", for best results. I use a "tea scale" from Upton Tea in Hopkinton, MA. (real tea, not the stuff that just recently became legal to sell in MA)

I was given this basic cantilever model and another brand cantilever model also with the TT I just bought last July. They both measured exactly the same when I A/B'd them against one another. B)

I am a long term user of the Shure stylus force gauge, but at $39.95 retail now I think I'd recommend looking elsewhere for something new.

By the way, you guys are keeping up on the latest official kilogram standard news, right? :)

Any of all y'all still using balances calibrated to that old kg standard are missin' out, big time! Jaw-dropping differences in PRaT.
    Staggering.
That new kg just mops the floor with the old kg.

This digital scale is very accurate and is re-branded by Clearaudio for $275.
Save some money and just buy this one for $20. It does not have the lip added by Clearaudio but works fine.

Sorry -- that's the arm of one of the NIST guys in the photo I posted. Guess the PI and one of his henchpeople got inked in celebration of their feat :)

I'd probably go with an oligosaccharide structure; maybe sialyl-Lewis(x) antigen.
