Ever notice, those that have the least to complain about are the very same that complain the most?

The very notion that celebs, or anyone else for that matter, with mega millions for a home, needs handouts from a workaday shlub like me, when they are insured to the nines against a loss is disgraceful IMHO... just shows how far out in left field most of these people are.
Did you know that some of Stephanie's classmates in Law School made accusations about me murdering her when she died? Did you know all my coworkers thought I'd gone off the deep end when I bought my new car a month after she passed without knowing what my financials were?
What's my point? Give them some grace. They just lost homes - homes where memories were surely made - and you are calling them entitled. Worry about your own hula hoop and let them worry about theirs. Sometimes people act irrationally whether it be legitimate or not and judging them immediately when their life might be in pure chaos is something I've learned to avoid completely.
Being in your shoes at one time, I can sympathize. It is difficult, very difficult, even without all that excess noise.
It still hurts, always will. It just hurts less often, but still just as painful.
Sounds like you are doing well now.
Take care. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

nooshinjohn wrote: »Some of these celebrities that lost homes are setting up GoFund me pages for donations to help t(em rebuild.... REALLY??? Some of them make more for five minutes of screen time than most of us make in a lifetime, and they need a handout from me to rebuild?
The level of self-importance and entitlement some of these people have is staggering. I feel bad for everybody that lost their homes, but to expect the have nots of the world to replace everything for you is arrogant beyond belief.
I'll donate some of my mother's old fur coats.

Well, unless you send in an army to take the forest.
Plenty of able bodied prisoners that could use a breath of fresh air.

That's actually a very good point Ron, we have a huge labor force in our prison systems doing nothing. Of course, asking them to do labor would be racist, not humanitarian, ask Sheriff Joe about that.
Occasionally I see them picking up garbage on the side of the road. We also have a lot of people who are court ordered to do community service, not necessarily in the prison system. Free labor, every state has it, but few use it.....in a positive way.HT SYSTEM-

I would say most behave so not to lose the privilege and have a sense of normal life.
Sign ups for out of facility work go quick. I think using more prisoners for public work is under utilized overall. They should be building desks and all kinds of stuff for our public building and properties. I would even say putting a couple dollars an hour away into each of the prisoners funds for use when they get out.
This would give them a chance to sink or swim their way into a better life ie housing/transportation etc.
More prison factories if ran correctly would be a double positive for both the states and the individual.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

Make up your mind, do you want them out there or not!
It's not an either or situation. Some are hardened criminals that obviously can't be a participant in out of prison programs. Others are in there for non-violent crimes, and pose less of a threat to the general public if something went south and they escaped.
Fighting fires....you have gear on that looks like everyone else, smoke as a screen to disappear in. They must have someone to monitor their whereabouts, ankle bracelets, something that shows someone where they are at all times.HT SYSTEM-

So it's been established that California already uses slave lab...I meant prison labor. What makes you think that guidelines aren't already in place?

My daughter, right after college and before she did her stint with the FBI, worked in the KY prison system. She worked both Medium and Minimum security facilities. They would allow qualified prisoners to work outside for the municipality were the prison was located. Although most inmates have duties inside and on the grounds of the prison. So this really only pertained to a few prisoners. Mostly those that short time remained on their sentences, and were of course in for non violent offences. See, people with little time left on their sentences are not going to run off only to be facing longer sentences. Although it has happened I believe. Even at that, only Minimum security prisoners were used I think. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

Google is your friend, use it.
LOL, A simple "I don't know" would have sufficed. Just thought maybe....since you live there, you might have an inside scoop. Your only concern is using "slave labor" as you put it.
Here I thought all you guys out there were for prison reform type programs. What did you think that means, just letting them out early ? No skills, letting them go back to their previous way of life ?
I'll give California credit for using the prison population to fight fires. They even pay them too. When they get out, they will at least be skilled in something, with a little change in their pockets as well.
Point of the whole last page was to maybe take the same approach to cleaning up the forest floor so these fires don't spread so fast and so intense. I see nothing wrong with that approach. Give these guys some forestry skills in the process. It's a win-win for everyone.HT SYSTEM-

I think prisoners should be used for gladiator fights. Think of the revenue. I would buy season tickets. They should put out fires too.

The Romans already tried that. I actually stayed at a hotel built on the same ground the gladiators trained at, kinda eerie, but cool at the same time.HT SYSTEM-

Fire now 70% contained, the end is finally in sight.
Still pretty bad air quality here, but not as bad as last Friday. 90% chance of rain tomorrow which should hopefully help start to dissipate some of the smoke. Trying to stay optimistic. -
I heard predictions of up to 4 inches of rain, that would be very bad
-
Yeah, kinda like going from one extreme to the other. That much rain on scorched loose ground/soil is going to make a huge mess.
-
Yep, rain will help a lot, except if you live downhill from a burnt up area and have to now worry about mudslides.
Man, what do you guys pay for homeowners insurance out there ? The only thing missing is a Volcano in the middle of the state.HT SYSTEM-

They got a volcano not to far from there that blew its top about 100 years ago. Not quite the middle of the state though. Lassen Peak.

We got that, Mt Shasta is one so is Mammoth. When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Yep, the Cascades are very active, silent but deadly. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

Did not know that. Looks to me like you guys have a perfect storm brewing. Earthquakes, that will possibly wake up the volcanoes, which will start fires everywhere, fanned by the Santa Anna winds, and as Cali sinks into the Pacific, the water will put out the fires and Nevada will have a nice tourist attraction ready made.HT SYSTEM-

It's because I am the only one not allowed to make jokes in this thread. Everybody else gets a free pass. You know....because....stuff....and stuff.
