as a corollary to this thread's topic, I'll take the opportunity to restate a dictum that I, with all due modesty, like to call Hardy's Law of Technology.
For the other members, I already looked them up:

    Definition of corollary
    1. a proposition (see 1proposition 1c) inferred immediately from a proved proposition with little or no additional proof
    2. a: something that naturally follows : result
… love was a stormy passion and jealousy its normal corollary.
b: something that incidentally or naturally accompanies or parallels
A corollary to the problem of the number of vessels to be built was that of the types of vessels to be constructed.

    Definition of dictum
    plural dictaplay \-tə\ also dictums
    1. a noteworthy statement: such asa : a formal pronouncement of a principle, proposition, or opinion awaiting the king's dictumb : an observation intended or regarded as authoritative must follow the dictum “First, do no harm”
    2. law : a judge's expression of opinion on a point other than the precise issue involved in determining a case.

I'm not sure I completely understand the complaint. Is it that on some devices the background is overly bright, but at other times on other devices the brightness is more subdued? This might not be a Vanilla issue, the actual crafting of the site is done by Polk/DEI and hosted by Vanilla. But if I can check into it, I will.

Peruse the screenshots in this thread, Ken -- some of us are still seeing the "Signature Series" closeups in the background; others (mostly if not all cell phone users, maybe only Android?) are seeing a blank white background (or other background?).

We went from a dark background, which is easy on the eyes to a bright white background. If the text area covered the entire screen it wouldn't be a problem, but the background image takes up sooo much room.

    We went from this:

The background image is essentially 50% of what we see, so when you make it as bright as the sun, it makes a difference in viewing comfort.

Bright white with a speaker on each side for me. I used the Wayback Machine to pull up the old background.

If you use Firefox to load the forum you get the older style sidebars, if you use Chrome then you get the brighter sidebars. Not sure if that will change in the future or not.

It's not that simple Ken. We're all Chrome, all the time, here -- and I've still got the "older style sidebars" (on one of my two laptops).

I'll admit, I didn't try Bono or Slash or whatever Microsoft calls its browser nowadays, though ;)

    Ken,

If Polk is so concerned about retaining customers why do they kept making things so damn user unfriendly? I'm not just talking about the forum as the products pages are laughable.

I have Chrome on Win10 at home and had the older sidebars yesterday, this morning I got the whiteout. This computer at work has Chrome and is Win7 and it has the older style. So far.
