Leaning toward Mundorf supreme evo SGO low pass and Jupiter VT high pass. Any concerns on that combination?
-
Decided to go with the Mundorf supreme's and Jupiter VT's. I ordered from parts connection and got a nice discount. Went ahead and threw in some Duland cast resistors since they were 50%off. Thanks everyone for the input.

Great, looking forward to the results.Political Correctness'.........defined

Everything ordered, decided to go with 194's. Seems like that is closest to the original sound quality. Hopefully the crossover upgrades won't color the sound to much. I went with some exotics, so I guess I will see.

Honestly, they're going to sound better than the originals2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures
Desktop rig: LSi7, Polk 110sub, Dayens Ampino amp, W4S DAC/pre, Sonos, JRiver
Gear on standby: Melody 101 tube pre, Unison Research Simply Italy Integrated
Gone to new homes: (Matt Polk's)Threshold Stasis SA12e monoblocks, Pass XA30.5 amp, Usher MD2 speakers, Dynaudio C4 platinum speakers, Modwright LS100 (voltz), Simaudio 780D DAC

Got back into town this afternoon and was happy to see the 194's had been delivered. Ran a few test songs before swapping them out then pummeled the 194's with everything from Lucia Popp and Otis Redding to Motley Crew and Metallica. The highs are tighter now and does not have that ear piercing ring at high voulme. Going to be a couple more weeks before the caps come in, the Jupiter's are on back order.

Let us hear what you think when you get em in. May have to do the same on a set one day..Who knows.

Anyone ever hear of/use Black Hole Stuff cabinet fill?

Are you asking about Black Hole 5?Political Correctness'.........defined

No Sr, this stuff is called "stuff lol. It's about 4 or 5" thick. From what I was told its used like poly fill woild be used. A buddy has a couple of sheets and offered them to me. Just curious if anyone had experience with it, any negative impact to sound profile. The box also says Focal on it but also says blackhole.

Ok then, no I was not aware of said product.Political Correctness'.........defined

Same here, friend told me the shop he works at bought a few boxes about 5 years ago to build a demo box for some 10" Pioneer reference subs and never used it again. because of the cost no one wanted it.
-
I picked up some blackhole 5 and the shop told me it's best to cut 6x6 squares and cut those into 1" strips an place the strips behind the drivers with 1/4 to 1/2" gaps. Does that sound like an effective install on my RTA's?
-
Most of us cut 4x4 or 4x3 strips at whatever length is required depending on how many drivers one is dealing with. Too much kills the sound.
I don't see the point in making 1" strips.Political Correctness'.........defined

Cool, the nd for help. I'm getting ready to install it. My miter saw made easy work of cutting it.
-
I just finished up the first speaker with BH5 and a layer of Blackhole stuff. Have a question, I compared the two towers to see if there was an audible difference, I put on AC/DC night prowler and noticed Immediately that the drivers seemed to have more forward thrust and the PR's are emitting a much lower deeper bass. The bass sounds good but is it possible to over work the mid ranges??
-
I removed some of the fill and things leveled out. Only problem that I have now is that I have to travel a few days this week and my center and new caps are arriving this week. My wife is going to **** when she sees them. Hopefully it's all still here when I get home.
-
Well, I screwed up when ordering caps.... The Jupiter VT are huge. No way I can see to install them. Going to have to figure something else out.

Lesson #1 learned after the fact. Always ask or seek size dimension's. Many are going to be much bigger than anticipated. Might see if they can be returned.
I like you found out after the fact once. -
Good advice, I contacted the vendor as soon as I opened the box. I freaked out when I saw each cap had it's own box. 2.5" d 4.5"L !

You can always mount them remotely. There's not a lot of real estate on the old crossovers. I sometimes have to use a riser board, or remote mount.

Yes at times one must get very creative. All films are generally going to be much bigger than factory electrolytic and mylar.
-
I did not consider remote mounting like you have in the second pic, that looks like a solid setup. How much if any is sound affected by increasing cap lead length?

Awesome! I'm going to give that a shot. As always, thank you gentleman for the great info.

You should have plenty of room in the RTA-11s. Pull the PRs, and you can mount your Caps pretty much anywhere.Home Theater/2 Channel:
