Confused and need help with materials list for crossover mod

New guy, I have used the search function so much today that I totally lost on what to use with so many opinions on brands. Would anyone have a list of components needed to freshen up the crossovers on a pair of RTA 11T? they still have the sl2000 tweets that I plan to replace with RD0-194 when I do the crossover mod. I'm looking for required cap uF, and resistor amps/watts/ohm requirements. And of course quantity of each for the mods.
Apologize for the clutter, and adding to the umpteenth time this has been covered.

Best to pull you XO out and get the values off what you have to be certain. Polk was known to change many things on the fly that may or may not have been listed. You're going to get in there anyway so take drivers out mark wires with painters tape and driver as to where they go. Take the poly switch(safety guard) out and get a Mills 12watt .05 ohm resistor to take its place. Replace all resistors with higher wattage 12 watt mills resistors. Most have used Sonicaps they are well regarded.

I just spoke with a local shop that does repairs on high end audio equipment and he recommended I use Audyn caps that he has in stock. Does anyone have any experience with those vs Sonicaps?

The True Copper version is very nice, but I doubt you'd like the price and they aren't going to have the values you need. The standard Q4.....keep looking.Political Correctness'.........defined

Your not kidding on the cost of True Copper! not what he carries, he has the Q4 MKP Metalized Polypropylene Foil. Looking at Sonicap now, still kinda pricy.
-
I believe the polyswitch is replaced with a 0.5 (1/2) Ohm resistor. I think the 0.05 Ohm was a typo.
Since you have the SL2000 tweeter, your schematic will be one of the first two. Check your components to be sure. Since you want to limit costs, I doubt you will want to do the TL mod which would require more work and an inductor as well. This would use the RD-0198 tweeter and follow the last schematic.
Clarity ESA caps are a recommended lower cost option to Sonicap. Otherwise, its more or less a crapshoot. If you choose caps other than Sonicap, the 34uF is 2x 17uF, NOT (33 + 1)uF. 33uF alone is also an option. -
Yes 1/2 ohm mills 12 watt. I'm sorry i fat fingered that.

Clarity PX are cheap and cheerful. They have a nice sound for the price.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Going with Sonicap, price is always a concern but I want to use the best I am able too and dnot mind spending what is needed for good sound. Is the TL upgrade significant compared to running a 194? Buddy of mine told me to look at Duel and bypass caps no mater which caps I choose. I need to read up on that.
-
My experience on different vintage Polk speakers is that yes, the TL upgrade is more than worth it.
Duel? Forget the bypass caps, just forget the idea.Political Correctness'.........defined

Haha, not sure what autocorrect did there, meant to say look at installing bypass caps. The concept sounds cool but not so much huh?
-
The original notion of using bypass caps was to help the inferior electrolytic sound better, but it's totally unnecessary when using film and foil caps as they don't need any help because they are vastly superior to electrolytics.

Cool thanks, I have only had the 11t's for about a week. I bought them for 100 on Craigslist, they were still in the original boxes with stryo foam and plastic wrappers. Excited about upgrading them.

Anone have drawings to wire in bi wire capabilities to the 11t?

Can I use silicone grease to keep PR's good and flexible?
-
I would not use silicone on anything. If you need to clean the drivers most here on the forum use original windex only, do not try to remove the tacky coating and keep the cloth damp as you clean in a circular motion.Yamaha RXA1030, Yamaha CD-S2100, Yamaha AS-2200, Bluesound node 2i

Gents, how critical is the .5 ohm resistor when replacing the polyswithch? Just received this reply from Sonic Craft in regards to low stock of .5 ohm mills.... Will a .47 work?
As you may or may not know, Mills has been out of business for a few years. There will be no more NOS Mills resistors. Now, there are Vishay copies of Mills made in Mexico, but you will notice that we do not have that value in those parts. It is simply because 0.47 is 10+ times more popular than 0.50. Have you considered using 0.47? Will your application suffer over 30 milliohms (0.03 ohms)?
Please advise,
Jeff

It can make a difference, but I have used them. There's also a 10 watt .51 ohm as I recall.Home Theater/2 Channel:

What no more Mills? bummer guess its mundorf now huh?
-
I only see .5 ohm 5 watt in Vishay, is 5 watt ok? The .51 is also a 5 watt. I looked at Mundorf also, cant find the right values.
-
The originals were 5 watt. The higher wattage units run cooler.Home Theater/2 Channel:

What do you guys think about the Mundorf Mcap EVO - Silver / Gold & Oil Series in comparison to Sonicap?
-
More detail, but with more top end sizzle, which you may or may not appreciate. They also take 300 hours to burn in....no joke.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks, I have been reading good things about oil caps. I only want to do this once so I'm still studying up.
