Ever feel the need to just want to build a classic surround system?
Hello all,
for years I have been wanting to open up a Audio Video museum. As that is a far away dream I also have a burning desire to build a surround room from the past.
Maybe find a 60-80 inch Mitsubishi Diamond or Pioneer Elite Rear projection TV and restore it back to new.
Then Get my B&K AVR507s2 fixed and use that.
Find my old Pioneer Elite DDV-47a or use my Sony ES DVD player.
Get some classic Polk surround speakers like a RT16 package or LS or even RT3000p system
Maybe throw in a VCR and Laser Disc.
Maybe even going all the way back and using all Monster cable and Monster Power. That was what I started on to get into the evil world of cables and Power centers.
Watching Movies the way it was meant to be back then. Just a super badass 5.1 system
Maybe have a closet of classic surround speaker packages to swap out from time to time like a Full bad **** Mirage OM system. Then a Vienna Acoustics system with a Rel Sub. Then maybe find a killer Boston Acoustics VR system which if your not familiar with Boston they are very Def Tech like in that series. They sound damn near as good to.
Many people like to bring back 2 channel, which I'm a fan but not many people bring back classic Theater systems. Technology keeps changing and all this LED displays make me sick. OLED isn't much better if in fact I think it sucks. I hate the way it comes out of Black. Sony is releasing a OLED and they said it's going to be the best OLED on the market but their Z series LED TV is still better.

Love that idea. I've been doing this so long I have rooms full of stuff.
Those pioneer rear projections were the bomb. I feel bad I had to go cut one up with a chainsaw to get it out of a friends basement once. He built the basement around the TV.
My workout room currently has the RT line in it. 800,1K,2K. 1000p. I also have my original RT 10's from the 1995.
I also still have my first receiver from 1987. Pioneer VSX -5900S. That thing is a beast it won't die.
I'm still am using a Pioneer laser disc in my master bedroom. Kind of funny I have a OPPO 203 ultra 4K on top of it.
Every time I visit a family member I see equipment I once owned. It would be fun to put it all back together.

Welcome to my world of rapidly antiquating A/V acquisitions! Due mainly to cost constraints I'm still rocking a 55" Sony tab. top RP and a Hitachi 720p projector and can be considered goat boy in regards to the majority of my audio equipment in my main cave..Even my AV receiver although was totl is now entering its 17th season
BTW still immensely enjoying it all!!

I had the RT12's but I always wanted the RT16's. They where what I was after but ended up coming home with the newer RT1000p's as the RT16's where disco when I went to buy them back in the day.

I remember trying to buy the 5900S. I was pretty young.
The salesman thought I was full of crap about buying it.
I had to go to his boss to get it purchased. I think it was like $750 in the day. I saved all my money for a year to buy it. I also bought a pair of Bose 401's. My buddy still runs those.
I replaced those with RT10's. I remember wanting to RT16's bad.
I remember replacing that receiver with the first Pioneer elite with AC3 output for laser disc. I think True Lies was the first laser disc I had with AC3. I can't believe I used to pay around 100 bucks a disc for some.

I have access to quadraphonic records that my dad bought back in the day. He had the receiver, modulator, and the cartridge but those were sold on eBay at least a year ago. Recently uncovered the records.mhardy6647 wrote: »Classic. Surround.

There were "matrix" quad records as well. Those don't require a CD-4 demodulator.
Got a few of those downstairs; maybe even a CD-4 LP or two, too. No decoder, though -- those tend to be 'spensive.

Interestingly, the four channel audio signal was encoded in record grooves in a manner analogous to multiplex FM stereo broadcast radio. The CD-4 system (which was, I believe, developed by JVC) used an ultrasonic pilot signal providing the basis for decoding the multiplexed quad signals encoded in the groove. The need to 'detect' the pilot signal led to the development of all of the exotic flavors of "line contact" styli (van den Hul, Shibata, etc.) that are still popular - and expensive - today for playing records.

My first system was a Pioneer 8 track and 9 Jensen TriAxials in a 1963 Ford Falcon station wagon. Four down each side and one in the middle. In 1972 no one had ever even heard of a system in a car.
