I have a 2014 4runner and it is now my daily driver after my 1998 Honda Accord commuter car with 230k miles was donated to red cross. I couldn't be happier. Comfortable enough to commute 45 miles each way every day and still get dirty, tow, mud, snow, etcShawn

Been through two 4runners and would take both of them back. Solid vehicles that can handle the miles. I do prefer the older body style, pre 2002, but most of those have well over 200k miles on them now, but still being sold.
Agreed. I Still own one and it's not leaving anytime soon. Knock on wood 263k and haven't had no major issue. I can sale it in a heartbeat for 4k or more the way it sits.Epson 3020 projector. Wow 325k miles on anything is amazing.
Not as unusual today as it used to be, it seems to me.
The kind of driving matters, too.
I assume 200k lifespan for new cars -- 300k is terrific, though, I'll give you that.

Actually, I drove it 1500-3000 miles a week when I was testing 911 for cell phone companies.
Fuel pump went out of it once but other than that, it was routine maintenance items.
I also put ~200,000 miles on a 1996 Cadillac Seville doing the same job after the Jeep was stolen.
The Jeep was in great aesthetic condition up until the last day I had it and it took me from the Canadian border to the Mexican border and everywhere between Detroit and SLC. Logging roads in the Ozark Mountains, fire roads in the Black Hills, misc mountain passes throughout Colorado and all the great and high plains anyone could stand.
I am far from a Jeep fan boy. But the 2 Jeeps I have owned in my lifetime have treated me just fine."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Can confirm, my 4Runner was body on frame and a beast offroad or in the snow. While it wasn't the most comfortable highway cruiser, the Limited model really helped compared to the SR5 I test drove initially. I wish I could have kept it, but I'd like to retire at some point, and a $600 a month car payment wasn't helping.
Wow....600 a month for a car payment is crazy talk to me. People really take on that kind of nut today for a car ?HT SYSTEM-

Yep. My Tacoma has a 600+ payment. When typical vehicles are well into the mid to high 40k range, 600 is the starting point for a 5 year loan. These are the times2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave

$600 a month by buying instead of leasing is financing around $34K with excellent credit over 5 years. After taxes and tags, getting a $600 payment on a Durango RT means putting down $15K or more up front then paying over 5 years. And that is not taking into account all the things a dealer will try to add on to the price. An owner may be upside down on the equity for a couple years even after the big down payment. Several thousand of that chunk is immediately lost to depreciation.
That $15K would almost buy a new base Nissan Sentra on year end close out. Of course the driving experience and utility is different. But, I think a lot of people are putting out a lot money on all wheel drive these days for no good reason which drives up vehicle cost. That Sentra on a set of cheap winter tires and rims could outperform any all wheel drive vehicle on all season tires on snow and ice covered roads.
The depreciation rate on a 4Runner is really low so buying used may not make much sense and putting a lot of money down up front doesn't either while interest rates remain low. -
^^And on top of that, most trucks and Suv's are used as nothing more than grocery getters. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.
It is imperative that we recognize that an opinion is not a fact. -
Looks like dealers are selling new Nissan Sentra S models for around $12,900 in my area.

Yep. Here in Texas I've seen some truck beds so clean, I'm convinced the owner has them waxed on a weekly basis. -
Ask what the mechanics are driving or look out back with the ones that have tags.
I am a tech and have been for some time, and other than the older straight 6 Wranglers with stick or the really old Grand Cherokees with the 360, they can keep the lot of em. (It will be a Jeep so you will need the bike rack) (As for off roading, I would go with a County LWB or a Defender, honestly)
I would get that used one checked over by a trusted mechanic if at all possible, if it's cheap, there's a reason. If you are going all out, get a new one or extended warranty, after all it is a Jeep. Really for trucks, just like buying tires, what do you use it for ?
You can modify or get upgraded a lot of stuff, but what will the primary use be ?
Typically, most mechanics do not own Jeeps or Dodges anymore that I know of. I do know some parts guys with some awesome Mopar products, and they are all for show.
For best work truck on a budget, the 98-03 Fords do well.
For show stopping and off road, get a new Rover or Ford Raptor.
For reliability with least amount of money going in, get the Toyota.
Good luck with your mopar, and mo powar to ya.Onkyo TX-NR636

Man. I bought my car for a one time payment of $600. No rust, no dents, taken me everywhere for two years so far without major incident and it hasn't depreciated a cent.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

lol. Nope. Lady had just gotten the timing belt done and wanted to recoup the $600 that cost her. She had just bought a new car and wanted it out of the driveway.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I typically do not buy anymore. I can't see paying all that money only for the vehicle to not be worth 1/2 of what you paid.
Leasing to me seems like the right way to go unless you buy used. Buying new just seems like a full waste of money.
Now Leasing first then buying at the end IF you totally love it well maybe thats one way to go.
I like leasing, no tires, no brakes , wiper blades etc. Most of the time I get the first years Inspections and Oil changes covered. Our Jeep has all the old changes and inspections covered for the entire lease term. Very nice, we just put gas in it.Dan

If you buy smart, the depreciation thing isn't that huge of a hit. For example, my WRX that I bought for new 25K I sold for 18K after it was paid off. Spend 7K to drive a car for 5 years? All day every day I will take that deal, way better than having a car payment for the rest of my life (lease). Tacomas are the same deal, very very little depreciation. I wouldn't buy a brand new BMW 7 series, a whole different ball game there.2 Channel in my home attic/bar/man cave
