Ahhh, burger joint talk. Love it. Couple of my all time favorites:
    1. Doggie Diner in beautiful Woodridge, IL. Family owned and operated since I was a snot nosed hellion growing up in the Chicago burbs. I hope it's still there.
    2. Yeah Burger in midtown Atlanta....pricey but excellent with pretty much any topping you can think of.
    3. I'll throw in White Castle because I miss it soooo much....and Krystal down here completely blows.
    4. Ate at Habit a couple times out in LA....very good.
    5. I used to like Fuddruckers but again....really none down here. Generally speaking, the food in the SW Atlanta burbs sucks.

White Castle ?? Doesn't even belong in the conversation of "good" burgers. Like saying the best taco's come from Taco Bell.

South of Atlanta, if your not hitting the greasy spoons, your missing out.

Had to get a plug in for one of the better burger joints in my neck of the woods. Any USAF members stationed at Offutt AFB are sure to know of Stella's. http://www.stellasbarandgrill.com/menu/

A young lady, Molly, has devoured "The Stellanator" three times. Her most recent effort clocked in at 3:40.9 (minutes, not hours).

Sneaky Pete's on lake Lewisville is very good.
Whataburger is good as a typical fast food joint can get.

I actually stopped by here today - 18 minutes from home base. The bacon cheeseburger is really, really good. I'll have to go back before issuing superlatives, but it was indeed better than Five Guys, and I like their stuff too.

My x wife's relatives, who's brother I used to work for and who also sold the chain for a billion bucks to none other than Warren Buffet. I remember when the guy had a trailer, used to run a long garden house to a strip mall out to the trailer in the parking lot.

Doggie, is still in the same spot. I have been going to that place since 1981. They have added a few stores but the original one in Woodridge is still there. I was actually over there this past weekend for a Breaded Steak.

Great burgers there, not really a chain though. I'm pretty sure any of us have a mom and pop shop close by that simply kicks butt.

Great burgers are divided into two categories IMHO, the big chains and local shops.
Here in Portland, OR the two best are Killer Burger (the Jose Mendoza with a roasted Hatch chili on top), and Fresh Grill (any type). In Denver, My Brother's Bar with the original jalapeño cheeseburger is insanely simple and awesome.

As for big chains, In N Out is ok, nothing special, just loaded with extras to cover the bland meat, though I do like the fries. Five Guys reminds me of a greasy burger joint I used to indulge in as a kid. Shake Shack was quite good when I had it in D.C. My favorite of this group is Red Robin's Royal burger with a fried egg on top, and the seasoning for the fries.
