I expected you to say it's with a Panasonic player...which mine does on far too many discs...

If perfectly clean new disc, suspect dirty lens maybe?

I've read that Panasonic players do that.

I need to, I'll look into doing that. Thanks a bunch

I haven't gotten around to it yet. I found where I can put in my serial and I need to do it sometime. we watched the movie the other day and the pauses were clumped together about 5 at a time roughly 20 minutes apart. it's annoying. but the first time we watched it got so bad and completely stopped playing.

What he said^^^^. This happens all the time with new discs if you don't check for updates.

I know of someone who had a similar issue with the Dredd bluray, and he's using a
(older) Pioneer BDP-09FD. The disc played once or twice and will not even load anymore. And every other BD he owns is fine.
Not sure if a firmware update would be in order, he asked me and I told him give it a shot - or just buy an Oppo... LOL
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

yes do this I have a used BR player I bought here Pioneer Elite BDP-51 and it started skipping and not playing new BR movies.(DVD's played fine) I didn't expect it to still be supported yet I went to the Pioneer website after checking my Firmware number and low and behold there was a new firmware upgrade and it even listed the movies that were causing problems. With BR you need to check often get used to it it is the nature of the beast even if you are not having problems update those suckers.

That seems ridiculous to have to do... but on the other hand the picture is so sharp it's worth it. DVDs are so fuzzy now, I've slowly been buying bd's new and used:) worth every penny

I checked the updates and upgrades on marantz.com and they have an update for all their receivers, none for the blu ray player.
