Hi Joey, I was telling Bud earlier my system is disconnected at the moment until I can borrow a spare pair of hands to move my Vitus gear around to & re-arrange my racks. i'm hoping to get it setup sometime this w'end. My first impression is a visual one..I'm sure Magico have improved the M-coat paint finish as it has a deep, almost piano lustre & is completely flawless. It looks beautiful :).

Right now, i'm just admiring the engineering which is something to behold. But the ultimate litmus test is yet to come B).

They are a beauties! I heard Magico playing with Solution Monoblocks in the Synergistic room at the Newport show. They sounds spectacular and probably one of the best sounding room at the show.

Don't you think the delivery guys forgot the white gloves?

Probably not necessary but if I have to nitpick, I would love to see a really nice binding post on these babies.

I can see that... but I bet and I assume they're good and up to par as Alon Wolf would not allow cheapos. Maybe they just look unassuming.

Thanks Megasat :) They were running the S7's in the Magico/Soulution room at Newport this year which do have a similar sound to the S5 Mk2's. "Spectacular" is exactly the word i'd describe the loudspeakers which got me hooked on this crazy hobby 25 years ago; Infinity IRS-V's. I got to audition those incredible speakers back in 1991 in a Dealer's showroom. Ever since then, i've been searching for a pair of speakers which could approach the awesome bass, sound staging and imaging of the Infinitys in a more practical form factor. Has my search finally ended? We'll see..

I overlooked the white gloves while the delivery guys were handling my speakers as the shiny M-coat finish is already pretty slippery, so safety first. But when we do room setup, yes the white gloves will go on.

Echoing Joey's comment, i'd say the binding posts are as good as they need to be. There will always be some compromise in loudspeaker design, but the S5 Mk2 is a remarkable package for the money B).

The binding posts look the same as on the S5v1. I find them to be very secure with spades, and easy to tighten. Not sure if different material (cyro copper, etc) would improve the sound, but it might.

Congratulations those are beautiful looking speakers, I could only imagine how good they sound. I see they even come with locking casters to move them around before you spike them nice. I would love to hear a pair.

    Steve,

My buddy Mike has a pair of the S5v1s and the S5v2s at his shop over in Urbandale. Let me know the next time you're over this way and we can hit up Audio Video Logic.

Thanks very much for that Gud. I was really impressed by the immediacy and coherency of the S7's, and the S5 Mk2's even have an edge over the S7's in some areas (ie: newer M3 midrange driver, machined 3D convex top plate), so i'm expecting big things.

I was very impressed with how Magico shipped the speakers. The side of the crate simply folds down and becomes a ramp, allowing the speakers to be rolled out of the crate...a relief when you're handling 220lb speakers!

If your local Dealer can demonstrate the S5 Mk2's with either Vitus, Soulution, Pass or Absolare amps & a good front end, you'll be in for a treat.

Really nice sheen in that pic! A very nice smooth finish accompanied with a top notch polishing job!

I agree. I previously owned the S5 Mk1's, however when I rolled the Mk2's inside, I was struck by how much nicer the M-coat paint finish looked compared to my old speakers. It is completely flawless. There is a deep lustre and slight speckle to the paint, and an almost piano-like finish which I love. Magico have improved every other area of the speaker, and it seems their paint shop haven't rested on their laurels either.

I used to lust after the special edition piano black Infinity Renaissance 90's way back when, but I can honestly say my pangs have now been satisfied; the paint finish on these speakers is equally stunning!

If you are interested in Magico then this is a great opportunity. They are sponsoring 20 AudioShark members for a tour August 27. They will even provide hotel and meals. I hope I don't get banned from AS for this, but join and take this great tour.

I was also wondering that myself today Bud. My Dealer's wife recently had a baby, so I have to be patient to get his help re-arranging my racks & moving some gear before re-connecting my system. I'd get a friend to help, but there is a tweak I need him to do first. I sent him a gentle reminder today, but I understand family comes first o:).
