Thanks man, the Classe will stick with bowers for the foreseeable future.

The Boulder 2060 will go with the Rockport Avior

Interesting how he replaced s Boulder 1060. The 2060 is a totally different beast than the 1060 so I would love to compar and contrast someday
Ah, ok I thought your Aviors were replacing the 802 D3's? It would be fun having a 2nd system, but at this stage all my funds & energy are going into my main system. Besides that I don't have the room in my current apartment.

Big congrats on your Boulder 2060!! That is a beast of an amp & operates in Class A. Fyi, I was the guy who replaced the 1060 with an SIA-025. I could just fit the 1060 on my rack, so no room for a 2060...that thing is huge! What other gear (preamp, front end, cables) are you running with the Aviors? Apparently The Gryphon has the best synergy with Rockport as Andy Payor voices his speakers with Gryphon. But your Boulder should work well with the Aviors being essentially neutral & provide prodigious power. I'm hoping for a similar uptick in power when I add the Vitus SS-025. That reminds me, I need to update my profile with a signature asap..

Cool man... I am envious of your gear.

I spoke to Payor, he loves the Boulder. Maybe Gryphon is better, but I have Alon Wolf's 2060 so if it's good enough for Magico, it's good enough for me.

Yes, the 2060 is fantastic, absolutely flat out the best amp I have ever owned. I would still love to move up to the 3060, but that will be probably another 5 years.

Yes, the Rockport Avior will take the main room, but the 803D3 will be in the gameroom.

I will run my full classe set up on the 803D3 unless someone wants to buy it, but I'm not sweating it and I sure as heck aint going to sell it for less than what I want for them. It'll ideally be Classe CP800 -> Classe M600 -> D3

For the Rockport, it'll be Cary AUdio SLP05 tube preamp -> Boulder 2060 amp -> Rockport Avior.

    I'm getting there I think.

Would LOVE to hear your S5mk2 and Vitus. I bet it would be ownage.

Good news! My Dealer advised me my pair of S5 Mk2's are due to be shipped out of the factory by the end of this week, saving any delay in production/testing. Worst case scenario is they should arrive in the next few weeks :).

The feedback i've read from Axpona suggest they are leaps and bounds ahead of the original S5's. Mike Bovaird from Audioshark gave them his 'Best of Show' within the 'sane' price category. I think that will be the first of many gongs to come ;) .

    That's what I read too.

MB texts me from time to time, he says they are good. He owned the S5 prior. His were Bud's so he knows them well.

Yeah Mike has been really enthusiastic about the S5 Mk2. I've heard the S7's in my friend's full Vitus system & was impressed how balanced and coherent they sounded. The S7's speed, resolution & dynamics reminded me of what good horn speakers do well; giving you that live, 'boxless' sound. The S5 Mk2 should be similar in presentation.

Btw, how are your Aviors settling in?

    Happy days ahead!

LOL. I saw that. Interesting hobby where $38k is considered the 'sane' category. :)

I am waiting for Mike to get his own, and then sell them used 5 months later.

Seriously though, I have no complaints with the S5v1 speaker. When I heard the S5 vs the S7 at Magico I preferred the S7, but the S5 was darn close.

You're right Bud, high end audio is branching out into the realm of luxury products marketed to the rich. But I just stick to my guns and remain true to my philosophy on building an audio system.

Yes, I wonder how long before Mike is tempted by the next new thing? Lol! Though I understand he is running a business.

I loved my S5 Mk1's. They're fun speakers and don't have any obvious deficiences. They do it all well. Kudos to Magico for producing a terrific speaker. At this level, the truth is you pay a lot more for incremental improvements.

    Cheers,

Mike is not a typical end user like you or me or bud. He runs a business. He gets to tax deduct his purchases.

He rolls through gear because he doesn't lose money.

Magico have now published the official specs for the S5 Mk2! - http://magico.net/product/s5mkii.php

The specs show that the S5 Mk2 is acutally 1db less efficient than the S5 Mk1's on paper. Of course, many other factors determine what kind of speaker load is presented to the amplifier, so i'll reserve judgment until my pair are in situ and playing music.

They also lowered the max power from 1200 watts to 1000 watts. I suspect I wasn't the only one to blow up a pair. :)

  • I got an email from my Dealer today. It looks like my speakers have landed! Now I just need to get these air conditioning works done so I can clean up & make way for my new speakers. Hence it might be a few weeks before I can get them delivered :'( .

My wife and son-in-law aren't in to this kind of thing so my daughter and I ditched them for 2 days.

Too bad you aren't here...was going to offer to buy you a bier at the bier garden. Gotta love Germany...bier garten in an expo hall.

Swung by the MOC on the way to our hotel and picked up the vendor book. Holy cow, this thing weighs a ton. Going through and finding the products/locations that I want to hit first. Way too much for quality time with each product. Looking forward to listening to the Magico offerings. Way above my pay grade but a guy can dream. Will post pics if they turn out.
