Selling my 802d2.... Where do these people get off with these ultra low ball offers?

Some guy with zero feedback just sent me an offer for 5,000$. I wish I could just send an e-slap across the audiogon message system.

I guess market is not good.

Dumb question, but what was the new price of them?

What are you expecting (hoping) to get for them?

Sorry, just found your ad, me thinks!

I found this, and it made me wonder.....

I believe that price is per speaker.

New as of 6 months ago was 15,000$ per pair. That link is per price.

My price is 9250$/pr, but likely will go down to 8-8.5.

    @F1nut,

You took the words right out of my mouth! :)

I live in tax-free New Hampshire, and I would have picked up the speakers myself. You can't add in your specific tax and freight costs, because their different for folks in different places.

The buyer of your speakers, furthermore, will have his/her own freight costs.

Hmm... I always add tax costs when I buy... I have been **** myself into thinking I've been getting good deals!!

    Dang it!!

8-8.5 is a good price Joey. I would love to hear those one day, in an optimal setup.

I'm sure freight isn't cheap for those. 160lbs a piece! Both of my electras weigh a little over that!

I say just karma it to one of us. This karma and the 05 preamp karma in the classified section would give someone a good starter system.

    Low ballers.
Yep been there done that. It always ends with me saying "thanks for stoping by"..

My favorite comment I have gotten is, "we're talking cash here, cash".
I think I ended that conversation once with "well, I sure as hell wouldn't accept a check from you"... :D

I guess you can't blame em for trying..

If they are still available by the time I am unbanned here, I would offer you 5000.01 and put them in a dedicated temperature controlled storage room in my home.

Sweetness, 2 interested parties stepping forward. One wants to deal both the speakers and the Classe mono (my babies).

    The other is just speakers.

One is local and will be coming by this week.

Should I ask for anything that would identify a buyer coming into my house? Tips so I don't get screwed?

I would ask for a copy of the individuals ID so a quick background check could be run. Nothing major but even a quick internet search of a persons name will come back with anything serious enough to be of concern.

You might also consider having someone there just to keep an eye on things and act as a witness. Here if I had any real concerns I would contact my local law enforcement and hire an off duty officer to come sit around for a couple of hours.

I agree with LWB above. You should take some precautions of this kind, just in case. And as far as LOW Balling, hey, we're in a time and place, economically, where that's pretty common. I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch over it. Should just ignore it and move to next buyer or just wait for an acceptable offer.

Of course, having said that, you're playing in a realm that my wife would divorce me over, lol But, hey, it's all relative. Depends on what you can budget for, etc.

Photograph the living $hit out of everything. When you are dealing with a purchase of this magnitude, evidence is key. Joe Smith might buy, said speakers, from you but drops one when he gets to his house and claims you were fraudulent in your claim of condition.
Also consider that they are on your 2nd floor and now you have to get them out. Who is going to do this? You, him, moving company...
Both parties should have a 2nd representative on hand for witnessing.

Finally, don't wear "The Shorts" as that will most likely end with him leaving your house in a body bag from laughing ones self to DEATH! or, via handcuffs as he tried to burn them with you still in them.

I'm all for people asking what ever they see fit for what they are selling. But with a lot of things, speaker prices are subjective. Goes the same with speaker cables. Depending on which side of the fence you are on, you either think super high end equipment makes a difference or it doesn't. If you can get what youre asking for, awesome. But I bet there are more people then not that couldn't tell the difference from $2000 speakers compared to $10,000 speakers.

So much is in the eye of the beholder. Also Audiogon is way better then eBay lol

    1. Good point about photo evidence.

I don't see how speaker prices are subjective if there has been an established trend.

And whether or not you think there is high end audio or not, that's for another thread.

I know it's different because they weigh so much but anytime I have people come over to buy stuff I have it ready in the garage. That way they don't see what else is in our house. Even when I sold a pair of rti4 I hooked them up in the garage so he could hear that they worked. They other thing I do for big items is they go in from our front door right to the basement without seeing other stuff. Yes I've been burned by moving stuff down there and no one showing up but I'd rather that then others seeing what's in my house. Just food for thought. Glwts

Yep, garage only for sales at my home. It's a pain for bigger items, but nobody goes in the house, period. Do you have a good relationship with a local hi-end dealer? I sort or remember somebody here conducting a private transaction at a local shop.

My take is that I'm simply showing the gear works. I'm not there to give an hour long demo. The buyer needs to do their own vetting by other means. Of course, I'm not selling 8K speakers either, so I see your point. Hence the suggestion of using a neutral location.
