I was putting 1200 watts into the S5s. They held up well for a while, but eventually broke.

Video or it didn't happen!

I'm sure he has that receipt framed as a reminder. A picture might be enough proof.

Well, not framed, but saved PDF files. The failures occurred in three incidents. The first was that night, and both the tweeter and midrange went in the right speaker. That was costly. However, all that power also weakened the left speaker. Later, the left tweeter appeared to go, and I tried replacing it to avoid boxing it up, and hauling it up the road, but the tweeter didn't fix it. Turns out it was the crossover. Magico fixed that for free. Later, the left midrange died, and I had to pay for that, but labor was free. Since then everything has been just fine. Now I am waiting for the rumored S5 v2 upgrade to use the new S7 parts.

Why would I make a video of a speaker playing? :)

I was just wondering what happened after "a while". lol

Did it explode and SWAT teams knocked down your door after a loud boom?

Or the pistonic explosion of the driver cones, and spiders with the burnt out voice coil shells flying in the room.

    May be nothing dramatic happened.

You know, it's partly Pass fault since he used a very plain looking meters in those amps.

Should NP uses these kinds of meters, you would know how many Watts you are pumping into the speakers before disaster strikes.

Hey Hey, I am just pulling your legs. Glad to hear you got it taken care of by Magico even though it cost a little too much!
Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:

The Pass amps show current, not watts. They don't move until you leave class A. Mine were bouncing like ping pong balls on the right side when the speakers went.

what are some of the runner up suggestions?

I won't speak for Bob Backert, but for a while I liked "Tom Tom". Being a drummer, to me it made sense as the little brother to the Rhythm. I ended up rejecting it because this pre sounds so close to our Rhythm 1.1 that a "cute little brother" name doesn't really apply. If we outsource to China to make a very inexpensive unit - not likely - I'll fight hard for Tom Tom. Also "Natural" for a while. The same for "Revolution" and I went through a brief love affair with "Polyrhythm" which got shouted down *loudly* by almost everybody, again, the drums thing maybe causing loss of perspective. I liked the similarity to Rhythm and the fact that the Rhythm uses V-Caps capacitors for the power supply, while the new unit uses *poly*propylene. There were several more passing #1 favorites and literally hundreds that were very fine names that I could have been totally happy with, things like Stratosphere, Mountain, Cadence, Soul, Samba, Vigor, Vibe, Move, yes Cello, Tempo, it goes on and on. Also many Italian words that sounded great, like Vivace.

I love to say "Telefunken" my second favorite to say is "Valvo". Telefunken sound is a mixed bag for me, but early Valvo's (early D getters w/foil strip made in Hamburg) are simply sublime........when you can find them.

I think they named it after the kids....Rhumba and Stiltskin. Which btw have a side business of spinning straw into Gold, and also how they came up with the green energy capacitors.
