$3K preamp giveaway

Hello, and welcome. I'm Andy Tebbe, president of Backert Labs. We hope this post is permitted, we couldn't find a place to ask if it was OK, so here goes...

Short version!

We're having a giveaway contest. If you come up with the best name for our new preamp, you win one.** Enter here.

Long version!

Last year we introduced our $7,500 single-ended linestage preamp, the Rhythm 1.1. This year, we are introducing a new model that has almost all of the sound of the Rhythm, at less than half the price. $2,995 to be exact.

And, we're giving one away.

The fact is, our new model doesn't have a name yet. So if you submit a name and we use it, you win one.** (You can submit up to 3 names)

If you want to learn a bit about it first so that your name suggestions are even more awesome, check out our press release.

Once you have some ideas, enter them here.

If we don't use any of the submitted ideas, we will still give away a free preamp (by random drawing from all entries).

**If we choose a name that was submitted multiple times, the winner will be chosen at random from those entries.

No purchase necessary to enter, or to win. Any resulting taxes will be the winner's responsibility. Void where prohibited; otherwise, all U.S. residents 18 and over other than Rhode Island are eligible to enter.

Our new model:

  • A bit of info... since we said these things on another forum, we should say them here too...

    Sonics
The intended sonic focus of the new $2,995 preamp that is the subject of the September Preamp Giveaway: live sound. So, rhythm. Dynamics. Excitement, when called for. Beauty.

Sound quality that is extremely close to its big brother, the Rhythm 1.1, which caused NewRecordDay.com to announce: "You want this. Trust me - you want it bad."

    In Through the Out Door
It has 3 RCA inputs, and 1 XLR input. 2 RCA outputs, and 1 XLR output. It is single-ended. It also has a home theater bypass, and a REC OUT for sending a full strength signal to a CD recorder or headphone amp.

    Tubes and Caps
The interior is kept simple. One gain stage only, using the lowest-gain tube that is commonly found, the 12au7, so that negative feedback is not required, and so users can "tube roll" with ease. The handy see-through tube access door helps with this -- no tools are necessary to access the tubes. The unit's overall gain is 9dB. Capacitors are minimized, for example, the entire power supply AND regulator together have less than 3uF total. Most engineers will tell you this is impossible. The filament supply uses additional uF.

    I Have The Powerrrrrr.....
Pure Class A design. Yet, uses less electricity than a 25W light bulb. It has our patented GreenForceTM power supply, so the music signal-carrying power supply capacitors are high quality polypropylene, rather than typical electrolytic caps. Toroidal transformer. HEXFRED diodes (only the best). Uses an IEC inlet instead of a captive power cord, allowing power cord experimentation. Easily convertible to 230V.

    The Hits Keep Coming
Designed and built in USA. Remote volume control. Mute switch. Faceplate machined from solid aluminum. RCA jacks sturdy and generously spaced so no interconnect will ever be a problem. No screws or fasteners visible to the user, except for our handy tube access door. No ugly ventilation slats visible, although we do get ventilation done. The tubes are so minimally stressed that the tube access door which is directly above them barely gets warm.

You guys are all 2nd place, I've got the winner. ;)

I did happen to notice in the specs only 9db of gain, pretty low, so take that into consideration. Kinda curious though as this seems to be the first "Green" type of audio gear to come down the pike.

Very observant! **But** you can ask for more gain, and it shall be yours! Anything up to 18dB very easily, even up to 24dB if you want (although you probably don't want THAT much).

    Good luck!

I Blame spell check on that. I can assure you Terry there was no mistake or a spelling error on the official entry. Your welcome to come on down and be my honorary guest when I hook up my Bakertlabs - - - - - - - preamp.
