So not only did we need to pick a good name, it has to clear the legal department. Sort of would have been nice to know that....lol.

I guess Backer Labs - James Bond 007 is out of the running? :)

I kid of course, that's not one I submitted. But I might have thought about the legal ramifications had I been aware.

Hopefully once you get the contest sorted out maybe we can get the demo going.

    Thanks again

I think it's a safe bet that any submissions with the company's name spelled wrong are out of the running! :p

Should get the show on the road here, if people want enough time to put it on their Christmas list.
Yes you are right! We are under a rock until we get the contest winner sorted out... each name that we like turns out to have various legal problems so it's taking a lot of our time right now, but we will be done shortly.

Will this and your other products be CSA approved?
We have not yet submitted for CSA approval but we will have to if the product catches on and we begin selling into Canada, which would be awesome for us.

Thanks guys, you know we audiophiles are an impatient crotchety bunch. :) Well I am anyway, the rest are just crotchety.

    I won!

...well, kinda. They chose the name I submitted but I didn't win the drawing against others who submitted the same name.

I do, however, win a pair of Backert Labs coffee mugs.

Cool contest and I do feel good about my naming skills. I told you all you were fighting for 2nd place.

Are those $3K coffee mugs? :D

I also won, but due to the facility being obliterated by chuck norris, i'll have to suffice with a cordial "Good Game" across my tush.

What name was chosen or do we have to wait for the formal announcement?

  • The most-splendiferous name that agfrost submitted (along with two other names which were no slouches) was Rhumba... Victor from Lawrenceberg, IN was another entrant who submitted this name, and he won the grand prize. We are currently preparing to notify all who entered via email (which requires yours truly to master some email stuff that I haven't had to think about before). But the rules don't prevent us from announcing the results however we want, so you are the first to know. :) Our sincere thanks to all who entered!

    Congrats to the winner.
You guys seem to have gotten off to a good start here, hope now that this is over you stick around, too; the people on this forum generally embrace a well-made product, especially if the company that produces the product has some keyboard time here (ask the people over at SVS about that).
And if you're serious about getting a demo going, so much the better. Good luck in your future endeavors!

So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Andy, this was a "splendiferous" opportunity to say the least. I will thank you and kindly ask that my 11 units be triple boxed... :p

When is the Backert Labs "Friends and Family" 50% off sale? Maybe a B-stock section on your webpage. Momma won't let me spend that kind of money on anything unless it's another engagement ring. If that was the case, i could have done the Rhythm 1.1...

Stick around, enjoy the company, the beer thread, and maybe even take a gander at the "cleavage" thread. Wowza!

I'd rather have that face plate plain anyway, or maybe signed by the man himself. It's a nice looking piece as is.

It's great anyway, even if we didn't win a thing. Backert Labs was nice enough to include us, is sending Skip a demo piece, and possibly offering up a demo piece to float around between us here for those willing to participate.

Andy at BL has been great, attentive and very generous. BL's is certainly going out of their way for us, and we appreciate that. The audio world could use more like them.

  • Hey there guys,
Well we definitely wish that everybody who submitted the winning name could have received a free unit! But it actually felt great giving the one unit away. Even though the process ended up being kind of hard for us, I definitely want to do this again for our next unit, which will probably be our phono preamp.
