    The Enemy Below??....

Agree! remember the star trek episode when they 1st encountered the Romulans? ( Balance of Terror) They made that episode just like "The Enemy Below" putting two ship Captains up against each other, a lot the the ST episode is just like the movie!

Yea..love all those old Trek episodes.....Another very good sub movie...The Bedford Incident...
  • Kind of a "sub movie"

Watch "Project Azorian-the raising of K-129"

    WILD.

It is a documentary of the CIA attempt to raise a sunken Soviet ballistic nuclear missle sub from the floor of the Pacific Ocean in 1968. Recently declassified.

There was an elaborate fake cover story about Howard Hughes building the ship "Glomar Explorer" to vacuum Manganese nodules off of the floor of the ocean.

I remember reading magazine articles in Popular Science and other publications back in the day. Turns out it was all faked.

Commenting on the scale of the technical challenge, one of the main engineers says "I don't even think we could do something like this anymore". Think about it, this was 47 years ago.

At least we can design apps for our phones that find pictures of kittens playing with balls of yarn on the internet.

Amazing. Have watched it several times. Everyone I have watched it with were astounded. Even "chicks".

    Biggest Sleeper of all time:

    True Romance

Everyone thought it was a chick flick... hardly...

True Romance was excellent...that is what got Quentin Tarantino his start, they would not let him direct it but afterwards he was set free :)

"Good" is a pretty low threshold. I like most movies so it's hard too just pick two. Many great movies already mentioned, so....

Spaceballs - still waiting for Spaceballs 2, "The Search for more Money".

The Pricess Bride - (sorry if anyone mentioned this already). just showed this to my young kids recently and they all loved it. Still a great movie.

Flash Gordon (1980) - very campy but Queen did the Soundtrack and it was produced by Dino De Laurentiis so the costumes were great.

Speaking of Dino...Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer were a couple favs when I was a kid.

    "Scent of a Woman"

Two scenes -- tango lessons and Ferrari driving in NYC by a blind man -- are worth the price of admission.

One of many Al Pacino masterpieces.

Gattaca "Vincent: [narrating] I belonged to a new underclass, no longer determined by social status or the color of your skin. No, we now have discrimination down to a science." - Getting closer to reality everyday.

And my all time favorite movie from 1962, There are only 2 dangerous things in this flic, Racism and a rabid dog. IMO with racism being the worst of the 2.

If you can find "Fitzcarraldo" check it out, not only does it feature Klaus Kinski at his mad german guy best, it was directed by one of the most dedicated directors around, Werner Herzog.

Its based on a true story, and they really dragged that boat over a mountain in the jungle, only Herzog.

Also, my fave coen bros. movie is "Millers Crossing", hardly ever mentioned, but I could watch it once a month from now on.

I love "off the beaten path" films...

The Boy In the Striped Pajamas - feel good movie of the year - not.

Old Boy - the international version is probably better, but I hate reading subtitles - plus, the U.S. Version has Sam Jackson:-)

Blazing Saddles has to be one of the funniest movies of all time. You couldn't make that movie in todays PC world.

Played it for my daughter once when she was like 25 years old, she didn't get the humor in it at all. I was like..."huh ? "
